Oregon Beer, Rock Bottom Brewery

Here’s the Oregon beer news for Thursday, March 7. As usual I’ll be updating this post throughout the day with the latest news as I find it, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I get get that updated as well.

Rock Bottom Brewery (Portland) is hosting its 23rd annual tapping of Fire Chief Ale today to raise funds for Portland Fire and Rescue and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. “Everyone has been looking forward to this event all year. Come raise your glass and support the MDA by buying pints of Fire Chief Ale. $3 pints from 5:30pm – 6:30pm, with 100% of the proceeds during the hour benefit MDA. After that, 25c of every pint of Fire Chief Ale sold until the kegs run dry will go to MDA.” Brewpublic has additional details about this year’s beer: “This year’s Fire Chief Ale recipe came from Chris at Tualatin Valley Firefighters Union – IAFF Local 1660. Chris won the Battle of the Brigades last month and his red ale recipe uses more berry and earthier hops with notes of chocolate and caramel malts!”

Portland’s Loyal Legion Beer Hall is showcasing Rosenstadt Brewery with a “Light in the Dark Showcase” starting today and running through Monday the 11th. “As we transition from winter to spring, we also replace some of our bigger darker beers with lighter lagers and pilsners, and Rosenstadt has some great lagered beers, we’ve brought in six for you to drink, talk and enjoy. Brewery will be here Thursday 5pm to 7pm, event goes all weekend.”

McMenamins 23rd Avenue Bottle Shop (Portland) is hosting a Trinity Brewing Bottle Bonanza tonight from 6 to 8pm. Trinity is located in Colorado and the Bottle Shop will be pouring taster trays of its beers.

Cascade Brewing announced this week two new beers coming out this month: Brunch Line and Tropical Embers collaboration with Beachwood Blendery. From the press release: “Cascade Brewing has announced two upcoming bottle and draft releases in March: Brunch Line on March 8, and Tropical Embers on March 15. Both projects will be available in 500ml bottles and on draft at Cascade’s two Portland pubs and through distribution. In Portland, brunch lines are as much an institution as brunch itself, so Cascade made a beer dedicated to the rain-soaked hordes of brunch-goers who patiently stand in line for their weekend fare. Inspired by the mimosa cocktail, Brunch Line features sour wheat and blond ales aged in white wine barrels for up to two years with Willamette Valley-grown Chardonnay grapes, then infused with fresh orange zest. Tropical Embers is a limited release blend made in partnership with Beachwood Blendery and features sour wheat ale brewed with smoked malt—a tribute to Beachwood’s reputation for renowned BBQ—then aged in oak barrels for up to 18 months with additions of whole pineapple and mango. This limited collaboration project offers a unique combination of wood smoke aroma and tropical fruit flavor.”

Pelican Brewing and Sunriver Brewing recently collaborated on a fruit-infused brut IPA that’s been tapped at a few places, and today Pelican sent out the official press release about the beer: “Introducing Brute Lupes—a light-bodied new small batch brew perfect for a lighter springtime enjoyment. The Brut IPA is available now on draft at Pelican brewpubs and other participating watering holes. The brewing team added an abundant amount of apricot for a tart, full-flavored balance to the low bitterness and massive hop character of this refreshing, spritzy IPA. The apricot provides a fruity aroma up front, while the hops finish citrusy and grape-like. The light toasty malt characteristics complement the slightly tart apricot flavor and the citrusy hops, while finishing almost champagne-like. This brew is just as satisfying and stunning as the views traveling from the Oregon Coast to the mountainous terrain of Central Oregon.”

Boneyard Beer (Bend) has a new beer alert: “Obey the Orange IPA. Hopped with Simcoe, El Dorado & Lotus, this India Pale Ale gives you notes of orange juice, lemon peel and fresh pine needles. Brewer Urs named this beer after his orange crocs.”

Bend’s Avid Cider has tapped its newest seasonal cider: “New Release! Watermelon Rhubarb Cider is now on draft at all our locations in Portland and Bend. An off-dry fruit forward delight made with unfiltered watermelon juice, rhubarb, and locally sourced apples. Come visit to try this and all our other fun drinks and ciders that we are experimenting with.” I sampled this recently and it’s interesting and different from the others in Avid’s lineup.

Zoiglhaus Brewing (Portland) is hosting Ales for Aivlene, a fundraiser benefiting the 2019 March for Babies Walk tonight from 5 to 9pm: “Drink a Beverage. Eat some Food. Buy a Raffle Ticket! We welcome you to join us in our first annual ‘Ales for Aivlene‘, a fundraising night benefiting the 2019 March of Dimes*, March for Babies Walk in their fight against prematurity! This time it’s an imperial blonde ale and Brew Dr.’s Clear Mind to create Kulture Clash Clear Mind. From the release announcement: “Opening with bright notes of citrus, Kulture Clash Clear Mind has subtle flavors of rosemary, mint, sage and green tea.
