Weekend beer news (shortened)

Haystack Rock at Cannon Beach, Oregon

No “real time” Oregon beer news for the end of the week, as I’m heading over to Public Coast Brewing for a media event today. However here are few highlighted events coming up for this (long) Mother’s Day weekend:

Thursday:

Tin Bucket in Portland kicks off its weekend-long 6th anniversary celebration. Among the festivities is the can release of Ferret the Younger: “Our friends at Culmination have canned an old collaboration we did with them a few years back. Ferret The Younger IIIPA will be available in 16oz cans!”

Friday:

FredFest begins its own weekend-long celebration at Hair of the Dog Brewing in Portland. “FredFest is May 10th thru the 12th this year. We are trying something a little different this year and will not have tickets, Beer and food will be sold separately. We will have four guest Brewers, Boneyard, Upright, Block 15 and Rubens Brews. Special tap lists Friday and Saturday with a mix on Sunday.”

Kobold Brewing holds its first-ever Fruhlingsfest beginning Friday and running through Saturday at its Vault Taphouse in Redmond. “Join us for a springtime German Beer Fest at Kobold Brewing! We’ll have four of our own German style beers on tap, The Pub Truck will be serving up Brats and Kraut, and we’ll have live music on the patio with Greg Botsford on Saturday. Prost!”

Corvallis’ Mazama Brewing is holding the grand opening of its newest location at Orenco Station in Hillsboro. “Mazama Brewing Co. is pleased to announce the Grand Opening of its newest location. Enjoy live music, a new beer release, food trucks and patio games! Admission is free, and it is a family-friendly event! Come celebrate with us!” Among the patio games—axe throwing (all the rage now).

Buoy Beer (Astoria) is also turning 5 and throwing a party! “Join us on May 11th to celebrate 5 YEARS! Live music in the Taproom. Limited edition mugs for sale $10 with beer fill. Favorite past dishes from the past 5 years. Guest taps from Mirage Beer Co., Aslan Brewing Company, Occidental Brewing Company, Lowercase Brewing and Heater Allen Brewing.”

The Brown Owl in Bend is turning 3 and celebrating with a Gigantic birthday bash: “It’s hard to believe, but we have been in the Box Factory location for 3 years now! To celebrate, we are throwing our annual Bday bash with our good friends from Gigantic Brewing (we share a bday) and featuring live music by Pete Kartsounes and TK & The Holy Know-Nothings! This is our chance to say thank you to all of you who have supported us throughout the years. Cheers!”

Sunday:

Celebrate Mother’s Day with the return of Cherry Festivus, a celebration of cherry beer. “Cherry Festivus – a celebration of cherry beers and chocolate will be held on Mother’s Day May 12th at Saraveza and the Bad Habit Room and tickets are only $10.
