Oregon Beer News, 04/29/2019

Oregon Beer, SaravezaHappy Monday! I hope you had a great weekend and are ready for the new week—and a new month in a couple of days. I’ve got the Monday news for you for this April 29, and as usual I’ll be updating this post throughout the day with the latest news so check back in from time to time for updates.

Saraveza (Portland) is hosting the can release of a collaboration beer with Grains of Wrath Brewing and Chuckanut Brewery tonight from 6 to 9pm: “Following the success of their first collaboration beer “Nuts of Wrath” Grains of Wrath and Chuckanut Brewery are teaming up once again for a special can release! And Saraveza is hosting! Come join us on Monday, April 29th from 6-9 PM as we pour beers from both breweries and get their cans moving in Portland.”

7 Devils Brewing (Coos Bay) is getting ready to release its annual South Slough Spruce Pale Ale, proceeds of which benefit South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve, and is issuing a call for volunteers to help harvest the necessary spruce tips. From the email newsletter: “Spruce tip harvesting will happen Friday, May 3rd from 8:30 to 12:30 or May 11th from 9-12 at South Slough. Email Debroah Rudd at deborah.rudd@dsl.state.or.us for details.”

Two Oregon McMenamins locations are hosting Friends & Family Night fundraisers tonight, where 50% of the proceeds from the night’s sales (after 5pm) get donated to a location organization. At McMenamins on Monroe in Corvallis, the pub will be benefiting Franklin Elementary School. And at McMenamins Oregon City, the beneficiary is Angels in the Outfield.

This weekend, the eighth annual Cinco de Micro Brewfest returns to the Salem Convention Center, taking place Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4. “This fun, casual atmosphere boasts over 100 beers and ciders on tap, ensuring there is something for everyone. Most breweries spotlight one of their new spring seasonal releases, so you’re sure to find many new options to try! The entrance fee into the event buys guests a souvenir mug and their first four beer tastes. Additional tastes are $1 per pour or $5 for a full mug.” (Via Facebook event page.) Tickets are $25 and you can purchase online here.

The New School reports today that the Portland Beer Museum is now open. Sounds like it’s not quite what you’d think: “The Portland Beer Museum in downtown Portland is now open, but it’s not what you expect. Part tasting room and growler fill station, Portland Beer Museum is in large part a bottleshop and merchandise store. A one-stop shop for beers and beer gadgets, trinkets, wearables and snacks. Some of it cool, some of it filler, but either way it’s weird to be in a gift shop that revolves around everything beer.” Read through for the full details.

Worthy Brewing (Bend) has a new limited release beer coming out this week: “Hopstar 3 | Hazy IPA | 5.7% ABV | 40 IBU. Tropical, grapefruit, stone fruit. Not too heavy, not too sweet. Hops: Citra, El Dorado, and our favorite Strata. Available at select retailers only, May 1st.”

Stickmen Brewing (Lake Oswego) has a new beer available in cans: “Now in cans! “Fleur d’ Oranger” Ale brewed with orange peel, Amarillo & Mandarina Bavaria hops, and orange blossom honey. Bright, floral, and citrusy. ABV 6%”
