Oregon Beer, Beachcrest Brewing

Welcome to the start of a new week! I hope you had a great weekend and are ready to tackle this Monday. Here’s the Oregon beer news for this March 11, which I’ll be updating throughout the day—so check back in for the latest.

Beachcrest Brewing (Gleneden Beach) introduced its newest beer last week, South Pacific IPA: “Treat your tastebuds with the newest beer to the Beachcrest lineup the South Pacific IPA. Notes of pineapple, pear and exotic tropical fruits marry with an ethanol sweetness and backbone of hoppy bitterness to take your mouth on a journey, like an exploration through an exotic forgotten island in the Pacific. The South Pacific IPA comes in at 7.4% ABV and 71 IBUs.”

Portland Cider Company is introducing a new seasonal cider, Pineapple Rosé Cider. From the press release: “Bursting with fresh juicy pineapples, Pineapple Rosé boasts a pretty in pink hue from a splash of Northwest-grown blueberries. Portland Cider’s Pineapple Rosé will debut on draft and in 12-ounce can six-packs on Friday, March 15, at a release party at the Portland Cider House at 3638 SE Hawthorne Blvd. in Portland; it will roll out to retailers across Portland Cider’s distribution territory in the weeks that follow. In mid-April, the company will introduce a new, 19.2 ounce seasonal can, which will also feature Pineapple Rosé throughout the summer. The fruity, tropical cider comes in at 5.2 percent ABV and, much like the rose wine it’s modeled after, is versatile with a variety of foods.”

St. Patrick’s Day is this Sunday, and naturally that means plenty of St. Paddy’s shenanigans this weekend. Two of the bigger celebrations are with McMenamins, which is a three-day celebration starting on Friday, and Kells Irish Festival in Portland, also lasting three days and taking place at Kells Irish Pub and Kells Brewery. I’ll be posting more details on those two events and for the weekend I’ll be rounding up a number of the various St. Paddy’s events taking place. Stay tuned!

The New School reports on changes taking place over in the Salem-Silverton area, as Salem’s Ratchet Brewery is purchasing Seven Brides Brewing of Silverton, which had (at least) closed its tasting room and pub last fall. “The gear heads at the barely one-year-old Ratchet Brewery out of Salem, Oregon has announced plans to open a location in Silverton in the former Seven Brides Brewing spot. Seven Brides closed suddenly in October 2018 and the owners have been mum on whether they would continue to brew at all, it turns out that Ratchet has purchased Seven Brides and will take over both the former Seven Brides brewpub and 15 barrel brewhouse in Silverton.” More detail at the link.

Portland’s Old Town Brewing has a new beer alert today: “‘First Call’ is our coffee and cocoa nib porter and is on tap now! Scores of rich coffee carry this beer, accompanied by deep dark chocolate and roasted black malt. Velvety smooth, with a medium body and warm satisfying finish. It’s the best part of waking up.”

The Pouring at the Coast festival returns for its 10th time this weekend to Seaside, with events Friday through Sunday. Over 40 breweries are billed and you can pre-purchase online tickets here.

Alesong Brewing (Eugene) is hosting its Alesong and Friends event this Saturday the 16th: “This time around we’re bringing out spirits barrel-aged beers from some of our favorite breweries around the country! We’ll have various offerings from Fremont, Ale Apothecary, Fifty Fifty, Cigar City, The Rare Barrel, Crooked Stave and more. Tickets include 4oz pours of unique and unavailable beers with bus transportation from town to the tasting room and back!” Tickets are $60 and available for purchase directly on the site.

Full Sail Brewing (Hood River) announced some big awards it earned at the New York International Beer Competition: “We are excited to announce that we were named Oregon Brewery of the Year at the 2019 New York International Beer Competition, and were awarded a gold medal for Amber Ale, a silver medal for Top Sail Bourbon Porter, and a bronze medal for Atomizer IPA and Malted Milk Shake IPA. Pick up one of our award winning brews and you be the judge!”
