Oregon Beer, Lompoc Brewing

Here is the Oregon beer news for this final day of February (already!). Take a break from digging out the snow to check out what’s going on in the statewide beer scene. I’ll be updating this post throughout the day as well, so check back often to keep up to date.

Lompoc Brewing (Portland) is hosting the release party for the return of Kick Axe at Oaks Bottom today: “We’re kicking off the start of soccer season with the draft release of our seasonal Kick Axe Dry Hopped Pale Ale! Join us on Thursday, Feb. 28 at Oaks Bottom Public House (1621 SE Bybee) from 4pm to 10pm for a pint of Kick Axe, our crisp and nicely hopped pale ale that has been dry hopped in the fermenter with whole leaf Cascades for a huge hop aroma. This beer will not be bottled this year, so get it fresh while it’s available! The unofficial beer of the Timbers Army – PTFC.”

Belmont Station (Portland) welcomes Sasquatch Brewing and New West Cider (they are the same folks) in for a beer and cider tasting tonight: “We welcome the folks of Sasquatch Brewing and New West Cider for a night filled with tasty beverages. They will be on hand to share their story, the relationship between both companies and to pour you some free samples of he following beers/ciders.”

Rogue Ales (Newport) announced the return of Cold Brew 2.0 (coffee blonde ale) and Paradise Pucker (POG sour ale) to cans and bottles, respectively. Both beers will be available from March through June.

Deschutes Brewery (Bend) announced several new limited releases, starting with the new Reserve Series Black Mirror black barleywine out this week, aged “98% bourbon and 2% American oak barrels for eleven months.” The Pub Reserve series Tempranillo Flanders is also available now, a Flanders-style sour with Temperanillo wine grapes, and Skiffy Snuggler Hazy Pale Ale, a collaboration with Varietal Beer Company is upcoming.

Portland’s Cascade Brewing‘s Sour Fruit Fest continues today at both the Barrel House and the Lodge, with 45 sour fruit beers on tap between the two locations. Today’s headline beer is Fruitopian Noyaux. If you want to experience the world of fruited sours, head down!

Wayfinder Beer (Portland) has a new beer releasing today: “Conrad and his brewing team over at Culmination Brewing Company love stopping by and drinking lagers here at Wayfinder. We hatched a plan to make an extremely non-lager beer over at their space. Ol’ Money English Barleywine is made of the finest British Marris Otter and Crystal Malts, Demerara sugar, and fermented with two ale strains of yeast. The result is very smooth. We will be tapping this fine beverage today!”

Sky High Brewing (Corvallis) has its 4 Oars of the aBOCKlypse on tap now, raising money for OSU sports: “Classic Style Lager inspired by our local rowers! $1 for every pint sold through this Saturday, March 2nd (with Sky High matching funds, effectively doubling the donation!) goes to the OSU men’s and women’s rowing programs!”

The winner of last Saturday’s McMenamins Hillsdale Brewfest was… (drumroll): “This just in. Our very own head brewer Jenni has won the battle of the belt this year with her Rose’ Brute IPA!!!!!!!! It was a small batch so you better get over here soon before it’s all gone.”

The Oregonian has a good article introducing the new Beachcrest Brewing in Gleneden Beach. Sounds like it’ll be an interesting spot to visit.
