Advent Beer Calendar 2023: Day 6: Maumee Bay Brewing Blitzen Winter Ale

Maumee Bay Brewing Blitzen Winter Ale, with reindeer

59 years ago today, on December 6, 1964, the classic and quirky television special Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer first aired on TV. In honor of that milestone, today’s Advent beer pick takes us to Maumee Bay Brewing of Ohio to enjoy a pint or two of Blitzen Winter Ale—Blitzen being the name of one of Santa’s reindeer, of course.

Blitzen is an annual favorite from the brewery, a spiced winter warmer that is 7.7% alcohol by volume with 20 IBUs. The description says:

Each year we craft this tasty ale to celebrate the festive holiday season. Spiced with just the right amount of cinnamon and orange peel, this ale is sure to be the perfect glass of holiday cheer!

You’ll want some Blitzen on hand for the annual screening of Rudolph, and don’t overlook the imperial versions that Maumee Bay offers either—Uber Blitzen and Barrel-Aged Uber Blitzen, two supercharged winter ales at 12 and 14% ABV, respectively.
