Oregon Beer, Block 15 BreweryHow’s your week going? Ready for a beer? Here’s the Oregon beer news to help you find one for this Wednesday, July 18, rounding up the news and events from around the state. As usual I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back from time to time.

Portland’s Imperial Bottle Shop is welcoming Block 15 Brewery out of Corvallis today for the release of Block 15’s Maize IPA, with a backstory involving the band Phish: “Block 15 brewed this special release IPA just in time for Phish’s upcoming shows at the Gorge Amphitheater. Stop by to pick up a crowler of You’ll Never Get out of This Maize to crush out at the Gorge ($8.50, limit 2 per customer). We’ll also be blaring some Phishy tunes and pouring a killer lineup on draft.” And about the beer: “Inspired by our friends at Imperial Bottle Shop in celebration of their fifth anniversary, this blazey IPA is jam band packed with hops, performing a lively show of stonefruit and tropical character. Flaked maize was added to the grist both to round out the body and harmonize with whimsical hops notes of lychee, peach, and marmalade. An encore of pine and grapefruit finishes the show alongside a gentle, lingering bitterness. You’ve lost it, you’ll never want to get out of this maze.”

McMenamins Oak Hills Brewpub (Portland) has its monthly limited-edition beer tasting tonight from 5 to 8pm, where you get the chance to meet the brewer, Dan Black, and sample his creation: Mocha Terminator Stout, what sounds like a fun spin on a McMenamins classic.

And McMenamins Crystal Ballroom has the latest release in its Blasphemous Collaboration Series at Lola’s Room tonight, starting at 7pm. This series pairs up a specialty beer with a band, and tonight’s beer is Stratosphere Summer Ale: “Brewed for our Blasphemous Collaboration with Seattle’s heavy metal warriors, Substratum, Stratosphere is a juicy, citrusy beer for hot weather heshing. Catch the true metal of Substratum & Bewitcher in Lola’s Room on July 18th to enjoy Stratosphere for only $4/pint!”

Widmer Brother Brewing (Portland) is hosting two Oregon Brew Crew Collaborator Special Tappings today at the pub starting at 4pm: “Each year, Widmer Brothers Brewing and the Oregon Brew Crew (OBC) team up to host the Collaborator Competition – a home brew competition held annually for OBC members – giving amateur brewers a chance to brew one of their beers on a commercial brew system. Every year three winners are chosen, and invited to the Widmer Brothers Innovation Brewery that is located adjacent to the Widmer Brothers Pub in North Portland. Now in its 20th year, it’s time to celebrate the release of not one, but two of the brews from the 2017 competition! On Wednesday, July 18th, join us in the Widmer Brothers Pub as we tap RaspBEERy Lemonade from Sean Sanders and Czech’s Mex International Light Lager from Jeremie Landers (w/ Jenn McPoland). The fun starts at 4pm so come on down to try both beers, and mingle with our brewers and the home brewers behind these two great brews!”

StormBreaker Brewing (Portland) has a call out for volunteers needed for its upcoming Radler Fest: “Calling all Volunteers! Radler Fest is Aug 11 and we are looking for volunteers. We have 2 shifts: 11:30-3 and 2:30-6. First shift volunteers get shirt and entry to use after shift has ended. Second shifter get shirt and a $20 StormBreaker gift card. Email dan@stormbreakerbrewing.com if interested.”

Xicha Brewing (Salem) has a beer update for you: “Back by popular demand is our Kellerbier Mexicano [kehl-er-beer] [meh-hee-kahn-oh]. Not to be confused with an actual Mexican-style lager, this kellerbier offers complex malt notes making it a bit heavier, but has a nice crisp finish like a Mexican-style lager. It’s perfect for this weather.”

Portland’s Cascade Brewing is releasing Kriek 2017 this Friday—make sure it’s on your radar: “We’re releasing Kriek 2017 this Friday, July 20th on draft and in 500 ml bottles. Kriek is a blend of sour red ales aged in oak wine barrels for up to 17 months with Bing and sour pie cherries. The beer features complex flavors of cherries, roast malts, oak and spice!”

Deschutes Brewery (Bend) has a new hazy IPA on tap at the Bend Pub: “JUST TAPPED TODAY: Fresh Haze, our hazy IPA. BREWERS NOTES: Juice bomb with orange citrus sweetness and soft malt body. ABV: 6.8 IBU: 45. Drink this beer on draft at the pub before it hits the market mid-September!”

Sunriver Brewing, not to be outdone, has a new IPA coming out too: *WHATEVER IPA* Whatever is a hard-hitting West Coast IPA. This brew is citrus forward with distinct lemon-lime notes blending with spicy pine and sweet papaya. **Available at both pubs this month**”
