Registration is open for the AHA’s Homebrew Con in Portland

Homebrew Con 2018

The Amercian Homebrewers Association‘s Homebrew Con 2018 is coming to Portland, Oregon this year, spanning three days from June 28 through 30. The conference is celebrating its 40th anniversary, and registration opened up today—you need to be a registered member of the AHA, of course, and if so you can register online here.

Here are the details that were sent out today:

WHAT: Homebrewers from across the country will come together in Rose City for Homebrew Con, also known as the National Homebrewers Conference. Hosted by the American Homebrewers Association (AHA), the three-day event—which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year—is the ultimate experience for anyone interested in homebrewing and understanding beer, mead and cider. Homebrew Con features interactive sessions, workshops and demonstrations that cater to beer enthusiasts and amateur brewers of every level.

The conference culminates with the National Homebrew Competition, the world’s largest beer competition, which recognizes the most outstanding homebrewed beer, mead and cider produced by amateur brewers worldwide.

WHO: An estimated 3,000 attendees will have the opportunity hear from over 90 presenters, including keynote speaker Charlie Papazian, who founded the AHA 40 years ago and is widely regarded as the “godfather of homebrewing.” Presenters include other pioneering and veteran homebrewers, beer industry professionals, mead makers and more.

WHEN: Thursday, June 28 – Saturday, June 30
Times vary. For a full schedule of events, visit the conference schedule.

WHERE: Oregon Convention Center
777 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd
Portland, OR 97232

WHY: The American Homebrewers Association has worked on behalf of the homebrewing community since 1978 and celebrates a membership of 46,000 homebrewers and beer enthusiasts. This fun, educational gathering pays tribute to the craft of homebrewing and unites all levels of homebrewing aficionados to expand their brewing skills and knowledge, while embracing the community’s camaraderie and spirit.

I don’t know if it’s 100% finalized yet, but the general conference schedule is posted, as are a number of featured speakers and their sessions. In addition to the actual conference sessions, I’m assured there will be plenty of beer pouring as well; in particular, the Social Club at the Expo will feature various homebrew clubs pouring their beer on the Expo floor, and a Club Night spotlighting many clubs pouring their best beers.

Current early bird attendee pricing is set at $255 for the full conference package (it will go up to $290 in April); the social package is $205 ($240) and the industry package (if you own a homebrew supply shop, for example) is $300 ($335).

As conference prices go, that’s pretty reasonable, though you do need to cover lodging and travel of course. It’s definitely on my radar, and I’ll have more to write about it in the coming months.
