Received: More beers, a cider, and a book

This week another bunch of beers arrived, as well as a cider, and a book. I’m getting my work cut out for me.

First up: the latest Zupan’s Markets collaborations: Breakside Brewery Farm to Market IPA, and Reverend Nat’s Farm to Market Cider. These are the tenth beer and first cider in this collaboration lineup. The IPA is billed as a “lightly hazy IPA features Chinook, Mosaic, Citra and Wakatu hops with notes of tropical fruit,” while the cider is “dry-style, medium-bodied and crafted with a blend of Pacific Northwest apples.”

Next, four cans of beer from Public Coast Brewing: two each of StackStock Candy Cap Stout (made with candy cap mushrooms) and Old Bog Farm Cranberry Kettle Sour. Also included, because brewer Will Leroux is also a chef, are candy cap mushroom shortbread cookies and a jar of Old Bog Farm cranberry kettle sour relish.

And finally, an advance copy of a book to review: The Microbrewery Handbook: Craft, Brew, and Build Your Own Microbrewery Success. According to the blurb email I received:

Author and founder of Perfect Plain Brewing Company in Pensacola, FL, DC Reeves explains that great tasting beer is just the beginning and details the many elements beyond the beer that are necessary in creating, growing, and sustaining a successful microbrewery in today’s saturated market.

The book offers practical guidance for brewers covering everything from the basics of brewing and the financial and business side of opening a brewery to creating a company culture, getting the word out, and helping a brewery thrive in local communities. The book also includes interviews and insight with industry experts as well as owners of some of the nation’s elite craft breweries including Sam Calagione of Dogfish Head, Jeffrey Stuffings of Jester King and Doug Resier of Burial Brewing.

Should make for some interesting holiday reading.
