Advent Beer Calendar 2019: Day 4: Champion Brewing Santa’s Cookies

Did you know that December 4 is National Cookie Day? What better time of year to celebrate cookies than the holidays? It’s a good day to pair cookies with your favorite beer and for today’s Advent beer pick, you know I had to find a Christmas cookie-themed beer. So off we go to Charlottesville, Virginia, where Champion Brewing Company offers up an imperial spiced oatmeal stout named Santa’s Cookies.

Champion was established in 2012 and currently has two locations: its original tap room in downtown Charlottesville and a 30-barrel production brewery. The brewery offers a solid line-up of canned standards and a number of one-offs and specialties. For the holiday season, Santa’s Cookies is 8% alcohol by volume with 45 IBUs, and Champion says:

Give Santa what he really wants this year. Our imperial oatmeal stout is made with real ginger and cardamom for a relaxing holiday treat.

Spiced oatmeal (stout) cookies! That’s what I’m imagining with this beer, although I suppose you could go in a snickerdoodle direction. Regardless, crack open a can for National Cookie Day and then save some to set out for Santa on Christmas Eve.
