Deschutes Brewery turned 30 this year, and to commemorate it released the most complex yet anniversary beer in its “Black Butte X” series, Black Butte XXX — a bottle of which I received from the brewery yesterday:

I say “most complex” because it is 100% barrel aged, for which the brewery used eight different types of oak barrels: bourbon, run, cognac, port, sherry, vanilla extract, maple, and salt. (I might give it the “most complex” label from the salt barrel alone.) The beer sat in barrels for one year before being blended into the XXX. It’s big: 13.6% ABV, and based on what I’ve tasted at the Pub, quite delicious.
