Portland’s new Grand Fir Brewing officially opens

Just in time for the holidays, Portland, Oregon’s newest brewery officially opens to the public on Friday, November 18: Grand Fir Brewing. Located in the former West Coast Grocery space, the venture is the realization of brewer Whitney Burnside and chef Doug Adams, the first time the married couple has combined their talents in a joint business endeavor.

You can read the pair’s bonafides on the website’s About page, but suffice to say Burnside has been involved in the brewing industry for the past 13 years, most recently as head brewer for the 10 Barrel Brewing Company Portland Pub; Adams is an acclaimed chef with several restaurants to his name and a stint on Top Chef (the TV series, for the uninitiated).

As for Grand Fir, from what I read on The New School’s first look, the overall experience sounds like it’s shaping up to be “upscale homey,” with high end comfort food and a solid lineup of drinkable, balanced beers, in a modern northwest brewpub setting. The beer list posted on the website for the opening includes:

  • Tack Shack East Texas Lager
  • Old Growth Pale Ale
  • My Father’s Pilsner
  • GFBIPA
  • Baby One More Time (Double IPA collaboration with 10 Barrel)
  • Heartwood Stout
  • Sagardo (Basque style cider from Son of Man cidery)

There’s also a full bar and cocktail menu and wine, of course.

Grand Fir is located at 1403 SE Stark Street in Portland, and open at noon most days.
