Oregon Beer News, 11/29/2018

Oregon Beer, Silver Moon BrewingHere we are at the penultimate day of the month, with the “official” Christmas season just around the corner, and I’ve got Oregon beer news for this Thursday the 29th. As usual I’ll be periodically updated this post throughout the day with the latest news and events as I find them, so check back often.

Silver Moon Brewing (Bend) is releasing a brand new beer on draft and in cans, Killer Queen Brut IPA, and is hosting the release party at its pub tonight starting at 7pm: “Similar to Freddie Mercury, we know that you want it all, and now you won’t ever have to settle for less. Our Killer Queen Brut IPA is a delicious brew that goes down crisp and dry while still containing the body and aroma of the IPA’s that you love. Come on down to the Silver Moon taproom on Thursday, November 29th for a special Trivia on the Moon night where you can be one of the first to try Killer Queen during our halftime Queen round. Sample the delicious beer and test your knowledge on all that is queen! If you win the Queen bonus round your team will go home with a six pack of the delicious beer!”

Belmont Station (Portland) is welcoming a new brewery to the state today, introducing Garden Path Fermentation, with a tasting and meet the owner event from 5 to 8pm: “We are excited to help introduce Garden Path Fermentation to Oregon. We will be pouring four beverages in the Biercafe, and we will have a small selection of bottles in the bottle shop to go. Since we are not too familiar with Garden Path Fermentation, we’ll let them share a bit of history and what they’re all about in their words: Garden Path Fermentation is a brewery/winery/cidery/meadery in beautiful Skagit County in the far northwest corner of Washington State. We focus on the slow fermentation of local products—Skagit grains, honey, and fruit, and Northwest hops—all of which are fermented in oak with our native yeast culture cultivated from the air, flowers, and fruits of the Skagit Valley.”

The Holiday Ale Fest continues today in downtown Portland, from 11am to 9pm in Pioneer Courthouse Square. If you already purchased your festival package, you can get back in free today (with the wristband and glass). Keep an eye on the limited-release beers for the announcements of when (and where) these double-ticket beers will go on tap.

Rock Bottom Brewery (Portland) has its Pints with a Purpose event tonight at 5:30pm, tapping a beer named Wicked Elf that will benefit Gift of Adoption Fund: “Help us spread the Holiday Cheer as we unite loving families this season by drinking Wicked Elf. Pints With A Purpose is back this Winter with our toasted Belgian Bier that is filled with festive notes of spice, stone fruit and the holiday spirit! The Wicked Elf is sure to be both naughty and nice! Come enjoy it’s nice side as we tap the beer on Thursday 11/29 from 5:30-8:30pm. Enjoy $3 Wicked Elf beers from 5:30 to 6:30 and with all proceeds benefiting Gift of Adoption. Thereafter, .25 cents of every pint sold will be donated!”

Burns’ Steens Mountain Brewing will be in Bend at the Platypus Pub tonight from 5 to 7pm for a tasting, bringing several beers. “Andrew Roy from Steens Mt. Brewing will be here Thursday evening to sample out a few of their beers. We will have their Basque Amber Ale and a NE IPA on tap and for samples.” Steens Mountain has been working on a new taproom in Burns, and it’s been awhile since I’ve had a chance to drink the beers, so this is a good time to stop by.

Check out Ecliptic Brewing‘s beer lineup calendar for 2019, which I posted last night. Some good stuff to watch for next year.

Don’t forget, Sunriver Brewing has its pop-up pub at Lardo in Portland all through the week. Great opportunity to drink some great beer.

And Dark Days 3: Rise of The Pastry Stout continues today at Bailey’s Taproom‘s The Upper Lip, featuring, well, pastry stouts. Today’s theme is “coconut” with four featured beers: Modern Times Druid Heights, Alesong Bailey’s Joy, St Archer Tusk & Grain (Bourbon BBL Coconut Stout), and Alesmith Speedway Stout: Hawaiian.

Ruse Brewing (Portland) is releasing a canned pastry stout today: “Our Stroopwafel inspired Imperial Stout is being canned off as you read this! We teamed up with @moksabrewing and @princecoffeepdx to create something pretty special. These cans drop today at 3 in the taproom alongside some fresh Papyrus Iris. Oh, and we will have some stroopwafels that were baked just this morning. Limit is 1cs of each per person.”

De Garde Brewing (Tillamook) has two new beers out today: “The Chateau – The Chateau is a four year blend of spontaneously fermented and aged barrels, with an average total age of approximately 29 months in oak. After tasting, blending, transferring barrels and bottling, the beer was further conditioned in bottles for approximately 5 more months. The Maison – Each blend of The Maison is unique. While they are always composed of three different years of oak barrels, each final blend will develop a singular character.”

Walkabout Brewing (Medford) hit a milestone today! “Today is a special day at Walkabout. We have now officially brewed more beer at our current location than we ever did in the garage! We have brewed 4,443 batches which equates to 4,239,312 pints! Thank you for staying thirsty and allowing us to do what we love! Come have a brew and listen to an acoustic set by Rickishane tonight at 6:30.” Congrats!
