Oregon Beer, The Bier SteinToday is the anniversary of D-Day, the first day of the Invasion of Normandy by Allied forces during World War II that turned the tide of the war in Europe. Raise a beer to toast the Nazi defeat that started on this day in 1944! Closer to home, here is the news in Oregon beer for this Wednesday, June 6; as usual I’ll be updating this post periodically throughout the day with news as I find it.

Eugene Beer Week rolls on today, with a featured event at The Bier Stein — the Tower of Sour taking place all day: “From the cobwebbed crevices of barrel stashes, we bring you Tower of Sour. Our annual expo of wild fermentation will showcase rare and cellared funk bombs that are just as fun to sniff as they are to sip. We recommend a cheese and charcuterie plate to pair with a flight for the most experimental beer experience.” The posted list looks pretty great, this is one worth checking out.

Portland’s Cider Riot has new cider news (from the company’s e-newsletter): “Nothing goes better with a sunny day than a cool cider, in addition to Everyday and Everyday Berry in cans, Everyday Passionfruit will be joining the Everyday lineup in July. It’s tart and refreshing with just a hint of sweetness to balance. We’ll also be launching a very limited run of Lemmy’s Summer Camp 2L Action Growlers. These will only be available in house this year. Earn your merit badges by taking photos of yourself and your Action Growler in the wild and tagging us on instagram @cider_riot or on twitter @ciderriot. Lavender Revolution is back just in time for Pride, made with lavender from the Clackamas Lavender Farm, this spicy, fruity, floral cider is brewed annually as a salute to the ongoing struggle for equal rights and respect.”

McMenamins Raleigh Hills Pub in Portland had a small fire yesterday morning, the Oregonian reports: “Firefighters battled — and contained — a small blaze early Tuesday at the McMenamins Raleigh Hills Pub in Southwest Portland, authorities said. The fire damaged the restaurant’s roof and exterior.” McMenamins reports the pub closed indefinitely for now but they are working to get it open again.
