Oregon Beer, Belmont StationToday is National Mimosa Day, but of course this being a beer post I’ll put a twist and suggest you celebrate with a beermosa instead! A light and easy-drinking ale or lager with orange juice would hit the spot nicely for brunch and to accompany your Oregon beer news for this May 16. As usual I will also be updating this post throughout the day so check back often while you sip your beermosas.

Belmont Station (Portland) is hosting a mead tasting with Melchemy Craft Mead today from 5 to 8pm: “Join us in welcoming Jeffrey Mocniak from Melchemy Craft Mead in the shop for a tasting of their hand crafted meads. They will be featuring the following: Triple Bee -A blackberry mead aged in bourbon barrels; Drylands -A juniper and pine mead aged in oak; and ReWild -A traditional mead aged in oak. All of these plus more we will be available in the shop for to go! We look forward to seeing you!”

Uptown Market (Portland) is hosting Sunriver Brewing for a beer tasting at its Scholls Ferry location today: “Sunriver Brewing Co. is on their way with something extra fun. Join us Thursday May 16 from 6-8 to get a taste of their seasonal releases and find out what the decide to can next. Stay tuned for beer info!”

Base Camp Brewing (Portland) is hosting an Elemental Fundraiser for Growing Gardens today from 6 to 8pm. “Join GlobalPDX and Outdoor Project Thursday, May 16th at Base Camp Brewing Company for the second event in the Elemental Fundraising Series! This month, we’ll be supporting Growing Gardens. Ecliptic Brewing (Portland) has the pub release of its Cosmos Coconut & Vanilla Hazy IPA today: “Join us for the release of Cosmos Coconut & Vanilla Hazy IPA in the pub! Draft and 500ml bottles of the beer will be available. We will also be offering a Pina Colada cocktail special and Toasted Coconut Ice Cream Banana Splits from the kitchen! McMenamins Kennedy School (Portland), fresh off its Oregon Brewshed Brewfest event, has a limited-edition beer tasting tonight from 5 to 7pm. If you stop by the brewery for the tasting you might get to chat with brewers Brian Riley and Ryan Lund too. The beer being released is Dragonflies Blackberry Milkshake, so be sure to stop by to try it!

Smith Rock Brewing of Redmond is closing! The brewery made the announcement on Facebook today, and co-owner Kevin Stewart has been confirming it in the comments. The brewery’s last day is this Saturday.

Breakside Brewery (Portland) announced upcoming beers being released over the next several months; from the release: “Breakside Brewery, known for its innovative, experimental and diverse beers, is offering a wide range of craft styles over the next couple of months. Hitting the shelves and your local taps this month is Rainbows and Unicorns, an annual favorite IPA featuring Galaxy and Comet hops, it shimmers with tropical summery goodness. The brewery will also be releasing Passionfruit Sour in June, a new Lager Series beer and several new barrel-aged, limited releases ranging from stouts to sours.” Some of those other beers include Grandmammy (barrel-aged version of Salted Caramel Stout), Grandpappy (variant of Grandmammy), Louiza (mixed culture beer aged on lemon verbena), and Coldest Beer in Town (Mexican-style lager).

Hood River’s Double Mountain Brewery announced a new IPA today, Simcoe a GoGo. From the press release: “With this Single Hop IPA, Double Mountain Brewery is releasing the newest addition to our seasonal beer lineup. Double Mountain Brewer’s love playing with a single hop and when news came around that Simcoe would be available for this year’s single hop beer, they were beyond excited. The versatility of the Simcoe hop shines with a big hop back, and not one, but two dry hop adds, along with the delicious resinous pine, earthy citrus, ripe red berry, and deep citrus aromas for which Simcoe is known and loved. Available in refillable 500ML bottles and draft at our Hood River Taproom, SE Portland Taproom in the Woodstock neighborhood, and throughout the Northwest.”

Cascade Lakes Brewing (Redmond) is offering up a pub exclusive beer starting today: “Back by popular demand, we did one last run of Drop the MIC bottles!! Swing by one of our pubs to get your hands on this juicy and refreshing classic before it’s all gone. Time to stock up for the summer!”

The Thirsty Monk (Portland) has the third release in its Karma Series out today, Unity Gose: “Brewed in support of LGBTQ equality and inclusion, this lemon kiwi Gose is crisp, complex, juicy, refreshing and brewed for patio sipping and the cheerful days of summer ahead! $1 from each pour of Unity Gose sold will benefit our nonprofit partner, Basic Rights Oregon! www.basicrights.org. Plank Town Brewing (Springfield) has three beers back by popular demand: “Here at Plank Town, brewers Steve Van Rossem and John Crane constantly push the envelope, trying out new flavors and styles to fantastic effect. Often, though, it’s just as exciting to dust off an old chestnut and bring back a beloved beer, and as such, we’re thrilled to welcome three proven performers back into the fold.” The beers are Thursty Hills IPA, Bart’s Best Bitter, and Hobbit’s Habit Olde Ale.
