Ninkasi to re-open its Better Living Room next month

Eugene’s Ninkasi Brewing announced that it will be re-opening its Better Living Room next month, starting May 25th. Originally opened just before the pandemic shut down, in February of last year, the Better Living Room offers casual food and highlights small-batch beers with the brewery’s innovation program, brewed on a five-barrel pilot brewery. Details from the press release:

Ninkasi Brewing Company is thrilled to welcome guests back for on-site consumption and dine-in beginning May 25th at the Ninkasi Better Living Room (BLR) on their Eugene, Oregon brewery campus at 155 Blair Blvd. The BLR will follow all safety guidelines and protocols and implement a new mobile ordering system. Along with the reopening of dine-in is the grand opening of their new outdoor patio space and a Sunday brunch menu.

The Better Living Room will be open for on-site consumption Tuesday through Thursday from 10am-9pm, Friday & Saturday from 12-10pm, and Sunday from 10am-4pm with an additional brunch menu. Mondays will remain closed with dock sales open from 12-5pm.

Honoring 10 Barrel’s Whitney Burnside; 10 Barrel’s new beer for dogs

News from 10 Barrel Brewing starting with big congratulations to Portland Pub brewer Whitney Burnside, who has been honored by the Portland Business Journal as one of its Women of Influence for 2021:

For an industry that seems endlessly inventive in its styles and ingredients, Oregon craft brewing typically hits one familiar note: the male brewer.

And then there is Whitney Burnside.

“It’s very male-dominated,” said Burnside, who as brewmaster of 10 Barrel’s Portland pub since 2014 has been upending expectations about who makes Oregon’s famous beers.

Speaking for a recent Portland Business Journal roundtable, Burnside said that while the brewing industry remains predominantly male, it is not static.

“The industry has changed drastically,” she said. “I’ve been in the industry for 10 years now. And I’m very excited to see the changes made.”

And in other 10 Barrel news, the brewery has released a beer for dogs, Good Sit Pup Ale, as part of its promotion for National Canine Fitness Month to “[call] for auditions to fill four spots on its Good Sit Pup-a-lete Team – the world’s first-ever brewery-sponsored dog athlete team.”

HOW TO AUDITION:

  • Post a video of your pup doing their best trick or favorite sport on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook.
  • Tag @10barrelbrewing and use #GoodSitSquad, #10Barrel, and #Contest in your post.
  • Make sure your profile is public so we can see it!

Our team of professional human athletes will judge the pet competitors on their athleticism, style, and personality to find 4 of the best of the best for the 2021-22 season. Perks include a year’s supply of Good Sit Pup Ale, $100 to spend at RuffWear, and $1000 cash for their trainer!

We’re accepting submissions until May 14th and will announce our final squad picks on May 26th. Good luck and Good sit!

The First-ever Sponsored Puplete team will also help promote the launch of 10 Barrel’s GOOD SIT PUP ALE, a glucosamine enriched malt product (no alcohol of course) designed to be enjoyed alongside their hooman counterparts. Belly up to the bar!

Yeah, it’s an odd one, but not a new concept. Boneyard Beer produces wort for Dawg Grog (or used to, I don’t actually know if that’s currently the case), in the same vein.

Bend Brewing’s Devil’s Cabbage and Razztafari return

Bend Brewing Company announced today the return of its seasonals Devil’s Cabbage Dank IPA and Razztafari Sour Ale in 16-ounce cans. Details:

Devil’s Cabbage weighs in at 7% ABV with a honey colored appearance and features loads of Columbus, Simcoe, Mosaic and Amarillo hops to create an intensely dank hop flavor and aroma on top of a simple malt bill of 2-row, Carafoam and Caramalt.

Razztafari combines an award winning Berliner-weisse base beer with Oregon raspberry puree and lemon zest to create a tart, refreshing sour ale reminiscent of raspberry lemonade.

Devil’s Cabbage Dank IPA and Razztafari Sour Ale will both be available Friday 4/16 at our downtown Bend brewpub and will see distribution through Bigfoot Beverages and Point Blank Distributing.
