Oregon Beer, Reverend Nat's Hard Cider

Today, 3.14, is Pi Day, celebrating the mathematical constant π (often with pie)! (Not to be confused with National Pie Day on January 23, which is Charlie Papazian’s birthday.) That means of course you need some pie to go with your beer news today; I’ll wait, but throughout the day I will be updating this post so check back in for the latest (with pie).

To celebrate Pi Day, Reverend Nat’s Hard Cider in Portland is hosting Pi(e) Day, with specialty ciders you have to check out: “Pie cider for Pi Day. To celebrate this pun day, I made five ciders and one ¡Tepache! infused with whole pies. Try them all! Willamette Valley Pie Company Blueberry, Gluten Free Gem Bakery Vegan Mixed Berry Streusel, Pacific Pie Company Rhubarb, Lauretta Jean’s Pie Raspberry Cranberry, Sizzle Pie Canadian Bacon & Viva la Pie-napple, and Coconut Cream Pie-Pache.” The event starts at 4pm.

Modern Times Beer (Portland) is celebrating The Ides of March today: “Belmont Fermentorium is getting metal AF on 3/14 for a day of pentagrams galore, tasty noms, sick jams, and exorbitantly decadent dark brews. If that sounds like your kind of party, you should totally swing by.” (Never mind the actual Ides of March is March 15.)

Saraveza (Portland) is hosting pFriem Family BrewersFlanders Road Show” tonight from 6 to 9pm: “pFriem Family Brewers will be here with some of their delicious foeder-aged sours for their Celebration of Flanders. We’ll have 4 of their finest on tap and maybe, if we’re lucky, we’ll have some of their ever illusive cans on hand.”

McMenamins Edgefield (Troutdale) has its monthly limited-edition beer tasting in the Distillery Bar tonight from 5 to 8pm. No mention of what beer will be pouring, but if you stop by you can chat with the brewers.

Uptown Market (Portland) is hosting a cider tasting with Southern Oregon’s Apple Outlaw today from 3 to 6pm: “Join us for a night filled with cider and fun. APPLE OUTLAW will be in the house Thursday March 14th to share their wonderful ciders and give us a taste of Southern Oregon.”

Salem Ale Works has new beer on tap (not a pie beer sadly): “Looking for a light, refreshing beer to enjoy? In addition to our gold medal winning Hootenanny Honey Basil we now have on tap our newest creation, Crosscut Cream Ale. Light bodied, balanced malt character and low bitterness lend to this beer’s crisp lager-like expression. Greet spring with a smile and pint of SAW beer!”

Culmination Brewing (Portland) also has a new beer which might be a bit closer in style to a pie beer: “New Beer: Daikaiju! Hazy Pale Ale. Don’t be fooled by its 5% ABV, Daikaiju has a monster Dry Hop of Strata and Wakatu, which lend to its aromas and flavors of Passionfruit, Citrus, and Lime.”
