Oregon Beer, Dirt Road Brewing

Happy hump day! We’re halfway through the week and the beer keeps flowing, so here’s the roundup of today’s Oregon beer news and events. As usual I’ll be updating this post throughout the day so check back in occasionally for the latest news.

Caves Bier & Kitchen (Corvallis): For its monthly beer tasting series taking place tonight, Caves welcomes Corvallis’ new Dirt Road Brewing: “We’ll have some of their awesome beers on tap paired up with small plates from our kitchen.” It takes place from 5 to 7pm.

The Bier Stein (Eugene) is hosting Bend Brewing Company for a “battle of the styles” event starting at 5pm: “Do you prefer sours, or IPAs? Vote for your favorite style from Bend Brewing Company to win prizes on Wednesday, March 13th from 5-8pm! Featuring on tap: Black Cherry Sour, Ching Ching Sour Ale (also available in cans!), Devils Cabbage Dank IPA (also available in cans!), and Tropic Pines IPA.”

McMenamins Thompson Brewery (Salem) has its monthly limited-edition beer tasting today, featuring a specialty beer concocted by brewer Jen Kent. The site doesn’t list what’s pouring tonight, but you can check it out from 5 to 7pm and chat with Jen about her brew.

Modern Times Beer (Portland) announced a new beer yesterday: “NOW AVAILABLE: Cool & Awesome. We recently masterminded a riff on an old favorite; a dynamic & delicious duo of nitrogenated wonders. This marriage between Unbiased Opinion (nitro blonde stout w/ cinnamon, almonds, coffee, & vanilla–collab w/ Green Cheek Beer Co.) and Nitro Black House with Cocoa & Coconut (oatmeal stout) is velvety smooth and chock full of rich, coffee goodness–kind of like a cappuccino, but beer. You can try it for yourself at Belmont.”

2 Towns Ciderhouse (Corvallis) announced the seasonal release of Two Thorns to wider market than previous years. From the press release: “2 Towns Ciderhouse is making moves and switching up their entire seasonal lineup this year! The first change to come is with the release of their coveted Two Thorns. Featuring a Northwest apple, raspberry & rose petal combination, Two Thorns is a tart and floral blend that gives you a glimpse of the spring that’s just around the corner. Two Thorns had previously been a collaboration project between 2 Towns and the Portland Thorns FC, and was only available in the Portland area market.”

De Garde Brewing (Tillamook) has two spring-release beers dropping tomorrow: “We are releasing two new beers in celebration of the coming season starting tomorrow. The Rose: Spontaneously fermented and mature wild ale aged in oak barrels, then refermented in secondary oak cask with Southern Oregon Mourvèdre grapes, and further conditioned in a third round of oak casks after fermentation with the fruit. Stone Gose: A spontaneously fermented Gose inspired beer, fermented and aged in oak, then refermented in secondary oak tank with fresh Oregon Peaches and Nectarines and conditioned coriander. It also includes a subtle addition of local sea salt from Jacobsen for added richness and complexity.”

Bent Shovel Brewing (Oregon City) has a new beer alert: Uncle Schwarz Dunkel Style Lager. “Our adaptation of the classic Munich Dunkel style, this copper beauty feature rich complex toasty, nutty malt flavors with a medium light body designed for extreme drinkability. Brewed with 100% German ingredients you won’t want to miss this delicious small batch beer. At 5.5% 20 IBU this beer pairs well with your favorite taco truck specialty, pizza, nachos and burgers.”

Deschutes Brewery (Bend) is hosting a Black Mirror Release Dinner tonight starting at 5pm at its downtown Bend Public House: “Join us Wednesday evening for our 3 course Black Mirror dinner for two. Our chef team has designed each course to be perfectly paired with Black Mirror. The 3 Course dinner will be available at 5pm anywhere in the pub, with very limited quantities. Each dinner will include a 22oz bottle of Black Mirror, to enjoy it with your meal or take it home to cellar.”
