Oregon Beer, McMenamins

Welcome to the start of a new snowy week! Here’s the beer news from around Oregon for this first Monday of March, which I’ll be updating throughout the day. If you have news to share, please feel free to contact me anytime.

McMenamins has several locations hosting Friends & Family Night fundraisers today, several of which look to possibly have been rescheduled from last week due to the snow. These fundraisers donate 50% of the evening’s food and drink sales (after 5pm) to the beneficiary, which potentially raises a lot of money. Here are the locations:

This Friday and Saturday, March 8 and 9, the 22nd Annual Lucky Lab Barleywine Festival returns to the Lucky Lab Beer Hall on NW Quimby in Portland. Both days will run from noon to 10pm and here are additional details from the press release: “The impressive festival line-up includes over 70 barleywines. Twenty taps will rotate new and vintage barleywines throughout the weekend. A festival glass and four tokens run only $16 with additional 4 oz. pours for $2.25 each. Lucky Lab’s full menu of hand-tossed pizza, deli sandwiches, salads, and snacks will be available. The Lab’s tap list of ales and ciders will be on hand as well.”

The 5th Annual Baker’s Dozen beer, coffee, and doughnut festival returns this Saturday, taking place at Ecliptic Brewing from 10am to 2pm. “The 5th Annual Baker’s Dozen, or BD5, melds three things Portland does best: coffee, beer, and doughnuts. Each brewer uses beans from different roasters in order to participate. Admission includes all 13 coffee beers, morsels of all 13 doughnuts, and a souvenir glass. (No extra drink tickets needed/sold). Actual coffee will be provided, too.” It’s family friendly but only 21+ and older can drink, obviously. Tickets available online here.

Silver Moon Brewing (Bend) announced its “SMB” line of “beers for doing stuff today”; from the release: “We all know someone who exclusively drinks those mega-brand fizzy yellow beers. Hell, we drink them too! Particularly when mowing the lawn, wrenching on a car or participating in some DIY home improvement. We are excited to announce that we will be launching a whole new simplified line consisting of an easy drinking ale and crushable IPA! SMB Ale is a Golden Ale that’s as smooth as it is tasty coming in at a cool 4.7% ABV. SMB IPA is slightly hoppy and super crushable coming in at 5.3% ABV. Keep an eye out for more info on where to purchase very soon!” I touched on these before, essentially Silver Moon is throwing its hat into the “low ABV, low carb” beer ring with these.

Stickmen Brewing (Lake Oswego) is releasing an Oregon Beer Award-winning sour today: “Here’s some wood to remind you that today we are releasing our award winning Flander’s Red, “I ❤️ Wood” and “Whisky-Dixon Line” an old ale aged with peaches in Whitney barrels for over 1 year. Both 750 mL bottles & both $14.99/each.”

Cascade Lakes Brewing (Redmond) has a new beer on tap: “Now on tap at both pubs! Zero Visibility Cascadian Dark Ale. A beautiful blend of barley and wheat malts that have been caramelized and roasted with hops that boast both citrus and pine forward qualities. A mild roast and chocolate character combine malt and hop bitterness seamlessly, leading to a resinous finish and a clean citrus exhale. 65 IBUs & 6.6% ABV”

Worthy Brewing (Bend) also has a new beer on tap now: “Enjoying how well our newest beer, Secret Spot Pacific Pale pairs with light falling snow. Now on tap at the pub, Secret Spot is a delicious neo-classic pale with grapefruit and graham cracker aromas, featuring bright notes of stone fruit and a gentle hint of mango. 4.5% ABV, 30 IBU”
