Oregon Beer, Deschutes Brewery

I hope everyone is surviving Snowmaggedon and managed to dig out from the snow yesterday. More is supposed to be coming today so be prepared. In the meantime, here’s the Oregon beer news for this Tuesday, February 26; as usual I’ll be updating throughout the day with news as I find it, so check back often.

Deschutes Brewery (Bend): Tuesdays are Community Pints days, where $1 from every pint sold is donated to a non-profit organization. In Bend for the month of February, the brewery has been benefiting ASK (A Smile for Kids), at both the Bend Public House and the Tasting Room. I never did find out what organization the Portland Pub is benefiting, but that shouldn’t dissuade you from help out with a few pints anyway!

Oregon City Brewing has its Charity Pint Night tonight starting at 5pm, benefiting Franciscan Montessori Earth School: “Oregon City Brewing Company has offered a “Tuesday Night Pints for Charity” night in support of the Franciscan Montessori Earth School. This will be held February 26th from 5-9pm. We hope you can join us for a drink / dinner. Invite your friends and family (kids are welcome)! They will donate $1.00 to the school for every OCB pint, taster, soda, crowler and growler purchased that evening between 5-9pm.”

There are a number of McMenamins Friends & Family Night fundraisers today, where a location partners with local organizations to raise money for them. On Friends & Family Nights, 50% of the food and drink sales for the night starting at 5pm are donated to the organization. Here’s today’s events:

Portland’s Willamette Week’s annual Oregon Beer Awards takes place tonight, to “celebrate our state’s top beers in 25 categories, and honor Oregon’s exceptional breweries, bars and festivals in seven additional categories.” I got to vote on these additional categories so it will be interesting to see who wins! The awards ceremony tonight takes place at Revolution Hall in Portland but tickets are sold out; fortunately there is also a livestream that everyone can watch, starting at 5pm. Don’t miss it!

Running Dogs Brewery (St. Helens) has a new peach beer on tap: “Jaron and the Giant Peach IPA is on Tap. This late winter warmer will get you in the mood for spring. Sitting at 8% ABV and 57 IBU you will get subtle hints of peach paired bitter hops in every sip.”

This Saturday, the 5th annual Shebrew Brew Festival takes place at the Buckman Coffee Factory from noon to 8pm. “Its time for the 5th Annual SheBrew! Calling all genders, all ages to show support for female-identified members of our community all while supporting LGBTQ people here in Oregon and across the Nation! Featuring local female craft beer, cider, and mead plus musicians, food, and community partners. Join us for an exciting day while celebrating LGBT equality!” Tickets are $25 and available online here. (Facebook event page here.)

Vanguard Brewing (Wilsonville) has a new beer on tap now: “Brewed using 6 different varieties of hops at over 2.6 pounds per barrel, Irene’s IPA delivers an aromatic and flavorful IPA which focuses on hoppiness rather than bitterness. Irene’s IPA is golden in color with floral, citrus, tropical and earthy hop notes balanced out by just enough malt to create an approachable IPA of distinction. Hops – Amarillo, Cascade, Chinook, Citra, Mosaic and Simcoe”
