Oregon Beer, Buoy Beer

Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope you have plans already but if not there are of course quite a number of beery things going on for the day if you don’t. It’s also Oregon’s 160th birthday—admitted to statehood on this day in 1859—so raise a toast to the state today! Here’s the news for the day, which will be updated throughout. Cheers!

Buoy Beer (Astoria) releases its Love Lost at Sea Barleywine today, its second edition of this rum barrel-aged strong ale. You can pick up the refillable 500ml bottles and enjoy live music at the brewery from 4 to 6pm. The New School has the press release with more detail about the beer: “A beer with strength and complexity, Love, Lost at Sea has a piquant and distinctive malt profile achieved with a dense grist of British pale, British Crystal, Chocolate, and special roast malts. Its smooth, warming, toasted sweet flavors are balanced with a healthy dose of Oregon hops. This harmonious mahogany-colored ale shines a light on the tangle of love gone adrift.”

Reverend Nat’s Hard Cider (Portland) has cidery Valentine’s plans for you: The Red Fleshtival. “Let us celebrate the rosy hue! Whether you’re celebrating with your love or just love cider, this once-a-year event is for everyone. I’ve curated a selection of the finest red-tinged ciders, from single-varietal beauties made from red-fleshed apples, to an earthy blend of apple and beet. I’m also celebrating the first bottle release of my limited Mountain Rose, made from a red-fleshed beauty grown in Oregon! A perfect Valentine’s gift for your cider-loving lover.” There’s a flight of 12 pink/red/purple ciders available.

McMenamins Edgefield (Troutdale) has its limited-edition beer tasting tonight in the Distillery Bar from 5 to 8pm, featuring Blackberry Blossom Smoothie which sounds appropriate for the holiday: “This Sour Ale is the recreation of a classic fruit smoothie. Blackberries and peaches were chosen for their rich decadence and high acids to create a dessert-like beer. Massive additions of milk sugar at the end of our boil team up with flaked oats and Wheat Malt to create a perfect backbone for the fruit to shine on. It’s the perfect harmony of fruit, sugar, and acidity.”

The Bier Stein (Eugene) is offering up some Valentine’s Day Sweetness all day today: “This Valentine’s Day we’ve got a delectable flight pairing featuring 4 Euphoria Truffles & 4 of our favorite beers! You can also try your luck shooting Cupid’s arrow from 5-7 for the chance to win some fun prizes! Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissbier + Strawberry, Founders Blushing Monk + Amaretto, Pelican Beak Breaker + Mayan, and 10 Barrel German Chocolate Cake + Grand Marnier.”

Boneyard Beer (Bend) has two beer releasing today: “VALENTINE’S DAY DOUBLE BEER RELEASE! Long-Boy Imperial Stout & Retrofit India Pale Lager. Stop by the pub [today] and give them a try as well as a Long-Boy cheesecake bite special. And since we’re in such a loving mood, cop one of these black & pink trucker hats for $7. If you’re curious why we named our new Imperial Stout Long-Boy, it’s because brewer Dana named it after her beloved Long-Boy puppy, Roscoe!”

Claim 52 Brewing (Eugene) is hosting a Valentines Donut Pairing with Voodoo Donuts that starts today and runs through the weekend: “Heart shaped donuts? Neapolitan Stout on Nitro? Who says no? This Valentines Day season there is a whole weekend of love down at the Kitchen. We will be running a special beer and donut special in conjunction with our friends at Voodoo donuts from February 14th through the weekend as long as supplies last! Join us!”

Coalition Brewing (Portland) is offering beer deals for Oregon’s birthday: “[Today] marks Oregon’s 160th birthday and to show our love for our main state we are offering 14% off all to-go beers [today]! Did we mention we have 6 CBD beers on tap for you to choose from too?”

2 Towns Ciderhouse (Corvallis) has a couple of newsworthy items today. First, the Taproom has the seasonal release of Two Thorns: “A fan favorite, this Raspberry Rose Cider will continue to knock your socks off with its tart yet floral profile. Crafted using fresh-pressed Northwest apples, raspberries and rose petals, this vibrant cider is as fierce as can be!”

And then the cidery announced its newest limited release, Strawberry Haze: “Sweet & tart, this unfiltered strawberry cider is such a rollercoaster of lingering flavors from start to finish that you could call it a jam band. A fresh-pressed one at least! Crafted with fresh-pressed Northwest Apples, locally sourced Oregon Totem Strawberries and finished with Crimson Red Rhubarb, this vibrant cider is so good you’ll be acting funny and want to kiss the sky!” It is available now.

Vertigo Brewing (Hillsboro) has a Valentine’s beer release: “Happy Valentine’s Day! Today we release our annual chocolate beer. This year come try our Razz Wheat that is infused with Ghirardelli White chocolate. Very limited so come before it is gone. Taproom opens at 4:00. Grenade and growler fills ok.”

We’re celebrating the most lovey dovey day of all with our very own heart throbs and one of their most delectable brews, Love Potion #9, a Stout conditioned on black raspberries. There’s stars in our eyes and Cupid’s arrow stuck in our side, we’re in love.”
