Oregon Beer, Worthy Brewing

It’s the Chinese (Lunar) New Year, and 2019 is the Year of the Pig—happy New Year! Here’s the news in Oregon beer to toast the day; as usual I’ll be updating throughout the day so keep checking back.

Today is Worthy Brewing‘s big day, celebrating its 6th anniversary with a special Sweet Bites and Brews event inviting other breweries and cideries to pair up their wares with specialty dessert treats: “Join us for a fun night of delicious desserts paired with local brew masters’ libations, all supporting The Family Resource Center of Central Oregon. Help Worthy Brewing celebrate our 6th year with a night dedicated to Worthy causes, featuring great beer from neighbors including Dry Fields Cider, Deschutes Brewery and Sunriver Brewing paired with sweet treats from local purveyors Ida’s Cupcake Café, Nancy P’s Bakery and Café, and Oregon Craft Chocolatiers.” Taking place from 7 to 9pm, the event is also a benefit for Family Resource Center, and $1 from every pint of Worthy beer sold will go to the organization. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased online here. Big congratulations to six years of Worthy beer, and raise a toast to many more!

Hopworks Urban Brewery (Portland) is hosting its Community Tap fundraiser with Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii tonight from 5 to 9pm: “Come out and join us at Hopworks Urban Brewery for some tasty beers and learn more about plastic pollution and the work Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii is doing on the West Coast. A dollar of every pint goes to our cause to help educate 10,000 k-12 youth about plastic pollution on marine environments.”

Baerlic Brewing (Portland) has a trifecta of new can releases today dropping at 4pm: Bling Blang Hazy IPA, Fruit Fight Mango & Passion Fruit Sour, and Pancake House Cocoa Maple Coffee Imperial Stout. All three are pretty much exactly as the name indicates, with the added bonus that if you find a Pancake House sticker on one of your cans of Pancake House Stout, you’ll get a Pancake House coffee mug.

Belmont Station (Portland) explores hard seltzer today, with a showcase and tasting with SeekOut Real Hard Seltzer from 5 to 8pm: “What’s that? A locally produced hard seltzer, that isn’t being made with refined sugar or artificial flavors? Yup, that’s right, 2 Towns Cider House is launching a brand new Alcoholic Hard Seltzer line, SeekOut Real Hard Seltzer, that is crafted using nothing but 100% real fruit and water. Ashley will be here sharing the story, the process, and pouring some free samples of SeekOut. Samples will include the four refreshing flavors, Cucumber + Juniper, Raspberry + Meyer Lemon, Key Lime + Mint and Pineapple + Passionfruit. This will be one of he first times to try these unique and tasty beverages. So get down here, find taste all of them and discover your next beer alternative beverage.”

Deschutes Brewery (Bend): Tuesdays are Community Pints days at the Deschutes locations, where $1 from every pint goes to benefit a local non-profit organization. In Bend for the month of February, the Public House and Tasting Room are benefiting A Smile for Kids. No word yet on who the Portland Pub beneficiary is, but get down there anyway to help out with a pint or three.

Portland’s Von Ebert Brewing is celebrating the Year of the Pig (or Boar) with specials all day long and the return of Anthelion Hazy and Dio Black IPA to the taps.

Montavilla Brew Works (Portland) is taking advantage of the weather and throwing a Bourbon Barrel Aged Porter Snowday today: “We’ve all been waiting patiently for this one to finish, and it’s finally ready! And just in time for a snow day! This delicious porter was aged in a Buffalo Trace bourbon barrel for four months! The flavors and aromas of oak, black cherry, and bittersweet chocolate, and a pleasantly dry finish will make you want another. Huge Thanks to our friends at Vintage Cocktail Lounge for the Buffalo Trace barrel that gave this porter its unique flavor.”

Modern Times Beer (Portland) has a new beer pouring today: Solar Oath. “We built this tasty, hazy rye IPA with a grain bill including flaked and malted rye before lavishing it with exorbitant amounts of Strata, Crystal, and Chinook and dry-hopping liberally with Mosaic. What emerged from the tanks was a triumphantly juicy 6.5% beverage with notes of fresh strawberry, honeydew, and citrus, and a lovely subtle spiciness from the rye. If you enjoy drinking beers that taste awesome, we fully recommend snagging yourself a pint at The Belmont Fermentorium today.”

Oregon City Brewing has its Charity Pint Night tonight starting at 5pm, benefiting Apert International: “Our goals at Apert International are to provide education and information to the general public about Apert Syndrome, and to provide direct financial and emotional assistance, based on need, to families affected by Apert Syndrome.” $1 of each pint will be donated.

Corvallis’ Dirt Road Brewing will be opening a tap room in Philomath, the brewery announced today. “We are opening a Tap Room in downtown Philomath, Oregon on the corner of Main and 13th streets! We are hoping for a Memorial Day Weekend opening. Follow us for construction updates throughout this winter and spring.”

Breakside Brewery (Portland) is releasing eight variants of its imperial stout The Oligarch next month, according to a press release issued today. More: “Breakside Brewery, known for its innovative, experimental and diverse beers, announces the release of its new barrel-aged Imperial Stout, The Oligarch. The “original” beer, a single batch of British Imperial Stout aged in bourbon barrels, was more than two years in the making. Not about to stop there, the Breakside brewing team dove into experimentation mode and created eight different variants of the beer using a variety of ingredients. These eight beers will be released in bottles and draft, with all the variants having a very limited, exclusive distribution. The series will be released at all three of Breakside’s Portland, Oregon locations during Zwickelmania on February 16, with the beer becoming more widely available shortly after. The Oligarch will be available across the brewery’s distribution area in 22-ounce bottles and on draft, with the seven variants having very limited distribution in 12-ounce bottles and draft.”
