Bevel Craft Brewing

Actually I’m a week and a half late pointing to my “latest” article but it is the last one to come out: Bend’s newest brewery has a solid lineup of beers. I wrote about Bend’s newest Bevel Craft Brewing shortly after opening.

Owners Nate and Valarie Doss, formerly homebrewers, have an unusual background. They are professional disc golfers with seven professional world championship titles and two junior world championship titles between them. This background and passion are evident when visiting the brewery, from a round logo in the shape of a flying disc to the array of discs hanging above the bar.

During the first week of the soft opening, I was able to visit and sample the available lineup and found them all to be well-brewed and geared for hop lovers. Nate prefers to brew hoppy styles, focusing on India pale ales and honing his recipes as a homebrewer.

That preference extends to Bevel’s beers, and the beers on tap at the time of my visit were all hop-forward styles. Bevel is a hop shop, and Nate plans to highlight hops in a variety of ways, including a single-hop series of IPAs.

“I like to single hop,” Nate said. “I just like to know what these hops taste like.”

Hit the article for the roundup of the beers.
