Beer TV: PINTS: Flagship on the River

Another video on the background and history of Deschutes Brewery, which debuted earlier this year. It’s really well done and because it’s recent, touches on current (well, pre-COVID-19 “current” at least) trends in craft beer with the need to be nimble and confront the new, small, hyper-local competition of recent years. But a great history piece.

PINTS: Stories Behind the Beer, is a documentary series focused on the humble and not-so-humble beginnings of the craft beer revolution and how it was built. This series tells the stories of why beer is made, not just how. In the Pacific Northwest, a region seemingly flooded with craft breweries, PINTS examines the folks who make beer and their various journeys, portraying them in a compelling, narrative format. We film PINTS in a striking, cinematic way to emphasize people and place and better reflect the influence each has on the liquid that many so regularly enjoy.

We had the pleasure of attending the premier watch party at Deschutes back in January, where the brewery hosted a discussion panel with the filmmakers, founder Gary Fish, and several others who were featured in the film.

It was a good night, and a good film. In particular the filmmakers did a great job of seeking out some old time residents of Bend to give a great perspective of what Bend was like in 1988 when Deschutes opened.
