I’ve never featured a brewery from Alabama on this calendar in all the years I’ve been doing this, so this year is the year. Today’s Advent beer pick comes from TrimTab Brewing in Birmingham, Alabama, and features a sour ale spiced with mulling spices: Holiday Now Cranberry Spice Berliner Weisse.

Holiday Now is part of the brewery’s Cellar Reserve series, brewed with cranberries and cinnamon, allspice, and clove (and possibly nutmeg). Here’s the beer in the brewery’s words, from Facebook:

When the leaves begin to fall, and you start feeling that cool breeze in the air…. You know it’s time for Holiday Now Cranberry Spice.
This sour ale brewed with cranberries and mulling spices embodies the tastes of the season.

There’s some question whether the name of this beer is Holiday Now, or Imperial Holiday Now (it looks like “Imperial” was part of the name as of last year, and dropped for this year); either way, the end result is the same—the beery equivalent of a mulled holiday beverage with 7.8% ABV.
