Received: Shock Top Honeycrisp Apple Wheat

A six-pack of the latest seasonal of Anheuser-Busch’s Shock Top beer series arrived yesterday: Shock Top Honecrisp Apple Wheat.

Yes, that is a wooden six-pack holder you see in those pictures there: kind of a cool way to package up the beer (though not as slick as the apocalypse beer kit I received previously).

The beer itself is a blend of cider and the base Belgian-style wheat ale—cider is definitely on the rise—and is 5.2% abv. It’s also “brewed with spices and finished with Belgian candi syrup.” I’m definitely curious to try it.

  1. The perks of being a beer blogger. Not sure if I’m surprised or not that ABInbev sends this out to the craft guys…but hey, it works. What kind of heirloom apples did they press?

  2. I’m not sure about the cider, whether it’s simply straight unfermented cider or hard, but I’m sure I could find out. And I’m guessing they used Honeycrisp apples, hence the name—hardly heirloom but not a bad choice as commercial apples go.
