Oregon Beer News, 10/16/2018

Oregon Beer, Ruse BrewingOctober 16 is National Liqueur Day, celebrating the flavored, sweetened spiritous liquids variously known as liqueur, cordials, or schnapps. While liqueurs don’t tie directly to beer, I know I’ve had beers of such strength and sweetness that I’d certainly consider them types of cordials—and maybe you’ll find some in today’s news roundup. As usual I’ll be updating this post throughout the day with the latest Oregon beer news as I find it, so check back often, and keep an eye out for those imperial or pastry stouts and other goodies.

Portland’s Ruse Brewing is being showcased today at Bailey’s Taproom, with a lineup of five beers to dig into: “Join us Tuesday, 10/16 at 5PM with Ruse Brewing as we showcase a few of their new fall offerings along with a couple of year round favorites. We look forward to seeing you!
Translator IPA: West Coast IPA dry brewed with Mosaic and Mandarina Bavaria and intensely dry hopped with Mosaic and Citra.
Phantom Shore: Extra Pale Ale dry hopped exclusively with Citra.
Audio Aquatic: Double Dry hopped IPA with Nelson Sauvin, Mosaic, Citra and El Dorado.
The Stages of Dusk: American Stout conditioned on organic cacao.
Fluorescent Animals: Tart Wheat Ale conditioned with Syrah grapes, blackberries and fresh squeezed lime juice.”

Baerlic Brewing (Portland) has a pair of can releases today that look appropriately themed for the season: Night Howler Imperial Stout (10% ABV; “Winter is coming, and so is the darkness. We blew the dust off our imperial stout chops with the recently released Father Midnight Stout—a draft only release—and we knocked it out of the park on this next one!”) and Dark Thoughts Black IPA (“A classic IPA possessed with a maniacal evil, Dark Thoughts CDA is brewed with cold-steeped roasted malts for an eerily smooth darkness. 6.66% ABV and 66.6 IBUs to stave off all that is good and pure.”). Both are available starting at 4pm.

The Deschutes Brewery Portland Pub is hosting a Fresh Hop Harvest Dinner as part of its Chef Dinner Series tonight at 6pm: “Love Food? Love beer, especially fresh hop beers? Join Deschutes Brewery on Tuesday, October 16th for several courses of each. Learn all about the beers you love (and a few new ones) and the food we are inspired to create to pair with them! Chef Jill Ramseier, with her team, and our Assistant Brewmaster, Jake Harper, will share food and beer stories that celebrate this wonderful PNW we call home. This Chef Dinner features 6 courses celebrating the fall harvest season paired with exclusive fresh hop beers created by Deschutes Brewery.” Cost is $60 and you can purchase tickets online at the link.

And don’t forget that Tuesdays are Community Pints days at the Deschutes pubs, where $1 of every pint sold goes to benefit a non-profit organization. For the month of October, the brewery is supporting Planned Parenthood. Make sure to stop in for a pint or three to help out today.

McMenamins Grand Lodge (Forest Grove) is hosting a Friends and Family Night fundraiser starting at 5pm this evening, benefiting Swallowtail Waldorf School and Farm. At the end of the night, 50% of the total proceeds from 5pm on are donated to the beneficiary, and that’s on all food and drinks—definitely a great way to raise a lot of money, and all you have to do is stop in for dinner and beers. Win-win!

Oregon City Brewing has its weekly Charity Pint Night kicking off at 5pm tonight, benefiting Levé: “Grab your friends and come share a pint, or make a night of it with the fam and come for dinner. The Levé mission is to inspire the next generation of givers. Because when we give back we are better citizens, colleagues, parents & friends. Levé has infused over $500k into the community since 2003.” $1 per pint is donated, so make sure to stop in for a few.

Widmer Brothers Brewing (Portland) is releasing a collab fresh hop beer today at the Pub: “We teamed up with Ashley Rose Salvitti and the BREWVANA Brewery Tours crew to brew DANK Crystal – a fresh hopped Lager with Crystal fresh hops from Goschie Farms – crisp, hoppy and refreshing. Come cheers with the BREWVANA crew and Widmer Brothers team at the pub TONIGHT starting a 5p.”

Walkabout Brewing (Medford) is now pouring Midnight Oil Stout: “Midnight Oil Coffee Stout had made its triumphant return! This stout is brimming with the aroma and flavor of Mellelo Coffee Roasters. Come taste this Cold Brewed Coffee Beer while we have it!”
