Oregon BeerHere’s the Oregon beer news for Tuesday the 11th of September. As usual I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for the latest news. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.

Corvallis Beer Week continues with more great events today, including: a beer dinner with Point Blank Distributing at Les Caves; Whiskey Barrel Oak Stout release at McMenamins on Monroe; a Sensory Analysis Workshop at Oregon State’s Fermentation Science Department; beer cocktails at Terminus Lounge; and even more. Don’t forget to keep an eye on their Facebook page and Twitter feed for the latest updates!

Cascade Brewing (Portland): Tonight’s Tap It Tuesday starting at 6pm is featuring “Live” Fall Apple: “This Northwest style sour triple ale was barrel aged for 19 months before being blended with fresh smoked beer. Aromas of deep, rich apple skins and light notes of smoke and cinnamon are noticed up front. Notes of sweet candy and apple skins on the palate lead to a light, soft, smoky note and dry sweet apple finish. It’s like fall in the orchard watching the fields burn. 9.5% ABV, $6.5/glass.” A fruit beer blended with smoked beer? Somehow with apples it sounds like it would really work.

Widmer Brothers(Portland) is bringing back the Rotator series Falconer’s IPA back for a second round, the only one of the series to be re-released thus far (ordinarily they are “gone for good”). From the press release: “Crafted with a proprietary Falconer’s Flight™ hop blend that honors the late Glen Hay Falconer, Falconer’s IPA is a testament to the brewer’s legacy and dedication to supporting aspiring brewers. In addition to brewing the commemoratory beer, Widmer Brothers will donate $5,000 with the release of Falconer’s IPA to the Glen Hay Falconer Foundation, a nonprofit organization created to commemorate and celebrate the life, interests and good works of Glen Hay Falconer. Contributions will help fund brewing scholarships for current or aspiring brewers, providing the education and foundation for success. In addition, a portion of the proceeds from sales of Falconer’s Flight Hops will be donated to the foundation.”

Silver Moon Brewing (Bend): This week’s Growler Power Hour specials are for Hopnob IPA and the seasonal Apricot Wheat (noted as being a “doctored up” Getsum Pale Ale, interestingly). The Power Hour takes place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4 to 6pm, where you can fill a growler with the selected beers for only $6.

The Platypus Pub (Bend) is hosting a tasting with Mad River Brewing this Thursday the 13th starting at 6pm, with Will Macleoud from the brewery on hand to pour samples and answer questions. According to the Platypus, “Will usually samples a wide variety of their beers” so it’s a good time to check out Mad River if you haven’t already.

The latest fresh hop news:

  • Rock Bottom (Portland) is having a fresh hop beer tapping this Thursday the 13th from 5:30 to 6pm: “This year we went back to BC Hop Farm for some Centennial hops (which, so far, are my favorite for fresh hop beers). From picker to kettle in 40 minutes.”
  • Three Creeks Brewing (Sisters): Yesterday Head Brewer Zack Beckwith told me, “Today we tapped 2012 Cone Lick’r featuring wet Perle hops from Sodbuster Farms.  Next week we’ll tap our second fresh hop beer, Hop Wrangler Fresh Hop Red that features wet Amarillo and Challenger from Yakima.” And of course Three Creeks is anchoring the Sisters Fresh Hop Festival coming up at the end of the month.
  • Breakside Brewery (Portland) posted on Facebook today: “We’ve had many folks asking about our release dates for our three fresh hop beers, and here is the news: Wet Hop Simcoe IPA and International Way APA (all Amarillo pale ale) will be tapped next Sunday and Monday, respectively. Our Fresh Citra Double IPA will be out at the very end of the month, since the Citra harvest still hasn’t happened.”

Oakshire Brewing (Eugene) is releasing their pumpkin beer in bottles in this year! From Facebook: “It’s brew o’clock for our 2012 Big Black Jack Imperial Chocolate Pumpkin Porter! What do you think – if you can brew a “wet hop” beer with fresh-from-the-field hops, can you brew a “wet pumpkin” beer with fresh-from-the-field pumpkins? … BBJ will be on tap and in bottles throughout our distribution area – OR, WA, AK, North ID.”  As a huge pumpkin beer fan I cannot wait for this to hit the shelves!
