Oregon Beer News, 04/13/2017

Oregon BeerHope your Thursday is going well so far! According to Jay Brooks, on this day in 1996, Rogue Ales brewed their 2,500th batch of beer; and in 1994, Old Market Pub & Brewery opened. I haven’t seen any mention of this by Old Market but here’s the other Oregon beer news going on. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.

Belmont Station‘s 20th anniversary continues with day 2 of their Bigger Badder Blacker event continuing today: “Epic’s Big Bad Baptist has to make an appearance during this event! And sure enough, we have So. Many. Baptists. On tap:
~S.O.B (Son of a Baptist) Brewed with local Coava coffee
~Big Bad Baptist (Imperial Stout brewed w/ cocoa nibs and coffee and aged in Bourbon barrels)
~Big Bad Baptista, inspired by traditional Mexican coffee
~Double Barrel Big Bad Baptist (Imperial stout brewed with cocoa nibs and whiskey-aged coffee beans)
Former Belmont Station beetender and current Epic rep “Ray Ray Epic Ray” will be on hand with some great giveaways! We will also have a very limited amount of all of these beers in bottles to go!”

Lompoc Beer (Portland): The Lompoc Tavern tonight is hosting the latest (and last, I believe) release party for Lömpocker Hoppy Kölsch, starting at 4pm. “Lömpocker, literally meaning “of or relating to Lompoc,” is a highly drinkable German style ale with a touch more hops than a traditional Kölsch. Bright golden in color, the beer features a delicate, soft maltiness, while Perle and Mandarina Bavaria hops give off a fruity aroma and a lingering hop bitterness (5% ABV). Stop by any of the gatherings to meet the brewers, taste the beer, and enter swag raffles!”

The Bier Stein (Eugene) has Portland’s Occidental Brewing in the house for a beer tasting tonight from 5 to 8pm: “Occidental Brewing has become known as one of the best producers of German-style beers in the Portland area. We’re happy to host them for this tasting featuring the barrel-aged version of their award-winning Lucubrator Doppelbock!”

McMenamins Edgefield (Troutdale): Their Meet the Makers beer tasting at the Distillery Bar tonight from 5 to 8pm is featuring Tropic Heat Guava Habanero Sour: “Tropic Heat will be sure to get you in the mood for summer. We added pink guava puree to a light, crisp Sour Ale base to enhance flavors of papaya, passion fruit, melon and pear. The addition of habanero peppers makes this beer pop, but toasted coconut rounds the beer out and provides a smooth, light finish.”

Bend’s Broken Top Bottle Shop is hosting Logsdon Farmhouse Ales for the release and tasting of four beers tonight from 5 to 7pm: “Four Beers from Logsdon Farmhouse Ales, LLC. will be on tap including: Peche N Brett (being released, don’t miss it!), Rood Wild Kalf, Far East Saison & Zuur Pruim”

Astoria’s Fort George Brewery is holding a “Mega Tap Takeover” starting today at Loyal Legion in Portland, and will run through the 16th (Sunday): “Fort George Brewery will be at Loyal Legion with the biggest tap takeover we have ever had, 30+ taps will be pouring great Fort George beer! Special guests and give aways on Thursday for the kick off, as well as some rare and hard to find Fort George beers pouring until they’re gone…”

Hood River’s Full Sail Brewing has their April Brewmaster Dinner tonight from 5 to 8pm, featuring four courses paired with Full Sail beers. (I believe it’s the final dinner of the season.) They didn’t post the price but past dinners have been $40 per person. Call the pub at 541-386-2247 for reservations.

Sunriver Brewing will be at The Civic Taproom tonight for a tap takeover from 5 to 8pm: “Stop by the Civic Taproom for a tap takeover with Sunriver Brewing Co.. We will have four of their beers on draft as well as Rippin in cans and the brand new cans of Vicious Mosquito!”

And Thunder Island Brewing (Cascade Locks) will be doing a tap takeover of their own at the Lake Oswego Uptown Market tonight from 5 to 8pm: “Stop in for a DOUBLE TAP TAKEOVER featuring Thunder Island Brewing and Drinking Horse Brewing! We will be pouring samples of: Thunder Island’s ‘My Pale Lady’ (a citra, hibiscus pale ale) and ‘Sojourner’ (Hef), Drinking Horse’s ‘Project Lager’ (We have the first keg ever!!), and a ‘Barrel Aged Apriocot Blonde'”

Rogue AlesTax Day Garage Sale starts today, and runs through the 18th (Tuesday) at all Rogue locations. “Put that tax return to good use (or save some money after paying taxes) and stock up on Rogue Ales & Spirits and gear for less. This weekend, get your Rogue lagers, stouts and ales in kegs, bottles and growlers as well as t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, glassware and other Rogue goods while saving some money.”
