Oregon Beer, McMenamins Oak HillsHere is the news in Oregon beer for this Wednesday, January 17. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often for updates. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.

McMenamins Oak Hills Brewpub (Portland) has their limited-edition beer tasting with brewer Dan Black today from 5 to 8pm, featuring Izard of P.O.G.: “As an emergent style, New England IPAs utilize hops that impart a tropical, juicy sweetness rather than the green, dank notes that can come from classic bittering hops. These hazy brews maintain a creaminess all their own. This brew includes POG, or passion fruit, orange and guava, and was originally invented by Mary Soon in Maui in 1971. Salute it’s mascot, the medieval and majestic Izard!”

Rogue Ales Eastside Pub in Portland has their Green Dragon Brew Crew release tonight, continuing with their Bodacious Beer Month tappings through January and featuring Venerable Drake: “Brewed at the Rogue Eastside Pub on the Green Dragon Brew Crew pilot system, this beer is like an old dragon: a monster with history! It is an old ale with a rustic twist. Primarily fermented with a German ale yeast, blended with wort fermented with Saccharomyces Trois for a bit of funk, then aged in a Pinot Noir barrel for one month. You don’t want to miss this beast! ABV: 10.5%”

Silver Moon Brewing (Bend): From their email newsletter that came out this week, a popular favorite beer is back: “Maui Wowie DIPA is now available in our pub & at select Oregon-only locations! Brewed only once or twice a year in limited quantities, this year’s batch clocks in at a whopping 9.2% ABV & 90 IBU! With a bold tropical aroma & delicious pine-to-pineapple ratio on the palate, it will sneak up on you like a good DIPA should!”

Prineville’s Crooked River Brewing is celebrating their first annivesary today: “We turn 1 today!!! All pints $3 today! $3 snifters for beers that only come in snifters, including The Abyss!”

Good news for the former Lompoc Hedge House in Portland which closed recently: Little Beast Brewing will be taking over the space to open their Beer Garden & Barrel House. From the New School: “Housed in a Craftsman Bungalow-style home with a grassy front yard, covered and uncovered beer garden areas, and a cozy wood-paneled indoor space, the Hedge House was a neighborhood institution. Little Beast Brewing will bring farmhouse-style saisons, table beers, and brettanomyces-, mixed culture-, and foeder-fermented sours to Portland hopefully in time for better weather in April 2018. With a full kitchen but limited equipment, the Little Beast Beer Garden & Barrel House will offer a simple menu of approachable bar food that pairs well with its beers. As a culinary industry veteran with a recent stint at Olympia Provisions, I expect Brenda Crow will make sure the menu is stocked with great meats and cheeses, small plates, and perhaps even some tinned meats.”

Portland’s Labrewatory has a new beer on tap today: “Heads up – we just tapped a brand new IPA! Brewed for our buddy’s newborn baby boy, BRENNAN’S IPA is a crystal clear West Coast style brew with a blend of Centennial and Chinook from @crosbyhops, Citra, Mosaic, and Simcoe. Come grab a pint!”
