Oregon Beer, Platypus Pub

The week is winding down and this is the second-to-last daily news post of the year! Tonight across the nation Sierra Nevada Brewing and other breweries who participated in brewing Resilience IPA for charity will be hosting a “Resilience Night” to continue fundraising efforts. I’ve got Oregon Resilience news below, as well as the other happenings from around the state. As usual I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day so check back often for the latest.

Bend’s Platypus Pub is hosting a beer tasting with RiverBend Brewing, who recently closed its pub and restaurant but is still brewing beer: “River Bend may have closed their tasting room, but they are still brewing up amazing beers right down the street from the Platy and we want to showcase what the neighbors are still up too beer list coming soon. Please share and help get the word out.” That is taking place from 5 to 7pm tonight.

The BeerMongers (Portland) is having a Jester King Fun Night featuring the popular Jester King Brewery out of Texas. It’s a little sparse on details but: “Your flight will cost $30 and include the following: Biere de Coupage, Correlation, Das Wunderkind Blend #21, 2018 Spon-Three Year Blend, and 2018 Spon-Raspberry Cherry.”

StormBreaker Brewing (Portland) is hosting a Winter Coat party featuring its Winter Coat seasonal ale: “Winter is upon us, and so is Winter Coat. And you might have also noticed that we just fully enclosed our patio and installed heaters too! Let’s celebrate with Winter Coat Specials, raffles, and one lucky person will leave wearing their very own ‘Winter Coat’! (Patio for both humans and dogs!)” Starts at 5pm.

Here are the Resilience Night (IPA) events and tappings today:

The Bier Stein (Eugene) is hosting Dive into the Abyss, a vertical tasting of Deschutes Brewery‘s The Abyss, 2014 through 2017. “Join us as we “Dive into the Abyss” on Thursday, December 20th. Deschutes will be in house to hand out some great holiday gifts along with samples of a secret pre-release beer. Our draft lines will be pouring holiday cheer in the form of: 2014- 2017 Abyss; Gingerbread Imperial Porter (brewed for the Holiday Ale Fest, this is the only keg south of Portland); Nitro Abyss 2018. Try a flight of Abyss or enjoy one of these unique holiday offerings in celebration of the season!”

McMenamins Kennedy School (Portland) has its monthly limited-edition beer tasting today from 5 to 7pm, with the chance to meet the brewers Brian Riley and Ryan Lund in the brewery. No detail on what will be pouring but I’d hope for a holiday special!

Flat Tail Brewing (Corvallis) has an imperial stout on tap brewed with the brewery’s usual flair: “Rainy…….cold……dark….but don’t worry, Age of Destruction Imperial Stout is here to brighten the day up! 36 hours in the boil kettle, and 2# per barrel cacao nibs and cacao nib flour. This beast of a 10%abv brew is chocolatey, smokey, and full of boozy roasty goodness. This is a very limited batch, so get it while you can!”
