Oregon Beer News, 10/23/2018

Oregon Beer, The Bier SteinHere is the news in Oregon beer for this Tuesday, October 23; as usual I’ll be updating this post throughout the day with the latest news so check back often. If you have news to share, please feel free to contact me and I can get that updated as well.

The Bier Stein (Eugene) is Tapping Into Community today with Pelican Brewing to benefit Womenspace: “We will be tapping a keg of Peached on Deck from Pelican Brewing in support of local non profit Womenspace! October is domestic violence awareness month making it the perfect time to support this amazing local non-profit. “Womenspace has been providing programs that empower individuals and communities working to end intimate partner violence in Lane County for over 40 years. We believe each person has the right to lead a life free of violence and the fear of abuse.” Need help now? Call our 24-hour Crisis Line: 541-485-6513 or 800-281-2800.” It takes place from 5 to 8pm, and 100% of the keg’s sales will be donated to the non-profit—so be sure to stop by and help out with a pint or three.

Sad news for the Deschutes Brewery family today, as Colby Nightingale, the longtime employee who had been recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, passed away. Deschutes had been holding a series of fundraisers for Colby to help raise money to cover medical costs, and much of the Central Oregon beer community had pitched in to help. He’s survived by his wife and two daughters and if there will be further fundraising efforts for the family I’ll be sure to post details.

It’s also Community Pints day at the Deschutes Brewery locations, where $1 from every pint of beer sold goes to benefit Planned Parenthood every Tuesday for the month of October. This extends to the Bend Pub, the Portland Pub, and the Bend Tasting Room. It’s a good day for a Deschutes beer and you’ll be helping out a great organization.

Oregon City Brewing has its weekly Charity Pint Night this evening starting at 5pm, benefiting the NW Down Syndrome Association tonight: “October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month. Please help us support the NW Down Syndrome Association’s mission to create and nurture a loving and inclusive community celebrating every person with Down Syndrome. Cheers Pioneers!” $1 from every pint sold will benefit the Association.

Portland Cider Company announced the release of its seasonal Cranberry Cider today. From the press release: “The deliciously rich, cranberry-forward cider is a blend of fresh Northwest-grown cranberries and apples. Slightly tart and semi-sweet, with a rich apple flavor at its core, it is reminiscent of fresh cranberry relish. The cider is 6% abv. With tart notes of zest, ripe cranberry and rich apple, this full-bodied Cranberry Cider is the ideal complement to the Thanksgiving meal. It pairs especially well with turkey, which is why, to celebrate its release, Portland Cider Co. has partnered with Portland Creamery on an epic Turkey Sandwich Special, featuring the latter’s classic Oregon Chèvre and a cranberry compote using Portland Cider’s cranberry cider and fresh cranberries. The limited special will be available at the cidery’s two Portland-area locations while supplies last.” It will be available starting November 1.

Bend’s Bevel Craft Brewing is taking possession of its brewhouse today! Check out the photos here. The 7-barrel (I believe) system is from Practical Fusion, LLC.

Cascade Brewing (Portland): Tonight’s Tap It Tuesday at the Barrel House at 6pm is featuring “a sneak preview of our upcoming bottle release of one of Cascade Brewing’s original blends, Cuvée du Jongleur. Originally released in 2008, Cuvée du Jongleur, or “Blend of the Juggler,” consists of select red, triple and quad sour ales aged in oak barrels for up to three years. Making its first appearance in over a decade, the 2017 project pays homage to the original blend, juggling a variety of base beers that offer clean and complex flavors through the lactic fermentation process that has come to define our Northwest Sour Ales. This will only be available as a live barrel at the Barrel House until the official release in mid-November.” Keep an eye out for that bottle release as well.

Ratchet Brewery (Salem) has two new beers out today: “Monroe Pale Ale is hopped using Monroe and Aramis hops. Coming in at 6% ABV and 36 IBU. Blueberry Cobbler is a brown ale that we added graham crackers, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and a healthy dose of blueberry too. Coming in at 6.7%”

ABV Public House (Hillsboro) is hosting Devil’s Night with Modern Times this evening from 5 to 8pm for a Halloween-y event: “Modern Times is here and is showing their (Devil’s) Teeth! Lots of barrel-aged goodness and Halloween spookiness!”
