Oregon Beer News, 09/04/2018

Oregon Beer, The Bier SteinWith Labor Day behind us and things generally quieting down for the summer, it’s time to get back in the saddle and start the daily news roundup once again. Without further ado, here’s the Oregon beer news for Tuesday, September 4; as usual I’ll be updating this periodically throughout the day, so keep checking back in.

The Bier Stein (Eugene) hosts Flight School with Aaron Brussat, featuring Farmhouse Ales, starting at 6pm tonight: “Dig into one of the most mysterious yet popular and refreshing styles of beer. We’ll taste through a flight of four different examples of “Farmhouse” beer, or Saison. During the flight, we’ll learn about the European origins of the style and how American brewers have taken its versatility to the max. We’ll also talk about the how and why of the beers’ flavors and aromas, and improvise a theoretical menu of food to pair with each beer. Aaron is a Certified Cicerone, beer writer, homebrewer, and editor of the Northwest Brewing News. Flight School is for anybody who wants to expand their knowledge of beer! Tickets are $18 and are available at the bar. Purchasing in advance is recommended!”

The Fresh Hop Pop-Up Beer Fest returns for its third annual iteration, and kicks off next Wednesday, September 12, at Burnside Brewing. From the press release: “The Fresh Hop Pop-Up Beer Fest takes place Wednesday through Sunday for two weeks: September 12-16 and 19-23rd, as a temporary covered outdoor beer garden featuring ten rotating taps of 100% fresh hop beer, an outdoor fire pit, boombox and Oktoberfest-style food specials with no cover charge and $5 beers with $3 half pours with $13 growler fills to-go on Sundays.”

Bridge 99 Brewery (Bend) is celebrating five years today—September 4! And to celebrate the brewery is running a very special “99” deal you should be there for: “We are celebrating with 99 cent beers for 99 minutes (5:00 PM to 6:39 PM). *Does not include barrel aged beer. Thanks for your support over the years! It is amazing how far we have come.” Bridge 99 recently started brewing on its 15-barrel brewhouse and has been working on an expansion for quite awhile now. It’s a great time to stop by and see how things have progressed and wish the folks there happy anniversary!

Deschutes Brewery (Bend): Tuesdays are Community Pints days at the Deschutes locations, where $1 from every pint sold is donated to a local non-profit organization. In Bend for the month of September, both the Pub and Tasting Room are donating to the Deschutes Public Library. In Portland, the beneficiary is Lines for Life, which helps to prevent substance abuse and suicide. Good causes, worth a pint or three so make sure to help out!

Oregon City Brewing has its Pints for Charity night tonight starting at 5pm, benefiting Neurotherapeutic Pediatric Therapies: “Join us for a Tuesday Night Pints for Charity at Oregon City Brewing Company! $1 will be donated to Neuro for every OCB pint, taster, soda, crowler, and growler purchased. Minors allowed in taproom until 9pm, on patio until close. Full menu available from Olympia Provisions Public House Kitchen, open until 10pm. Invite your friends and family and let’s have a fun night raising money for a great cause!”

Portland Cider Company has release Pumpkin Spice Cider, its fall seasonal which is a 100% apple cider seasoned with pumpkin pie spices: cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, allspice, and ginger. (No actual pumpkin though.) “It comes in at 5.4% ABV. It is available now through November in 22 oz. bottles and draft kegs. It is available at Portland Cider Co.’s two taprooms and at select retailers in Oregon and Washington.”

Cascade Brewing (Portland): Tonight’s Tap It Tuesday at the Barrel House at 6pm is featuring Primordial Noir: “a blend of imperial red ales aged in bourbon and wine barrels for up to two years with Northwest-grown Bing cherries and spices. A concentrated precursor to our Sang Noir project, Primordial Noir features a more robust bourbon and cherry presence with notes of roast malt, molasses and baking spices. Stay posted for a bottle release of this blend in the coming months!”

Also, Cascade announced the upcoming bottling of its Bourbonic Plague, a popular favorite: “Cascade Brewing is bottling its award-winning Bourbonic Plague for the first time in more than seven years to celebrate its 20th anniversary later this year. Each bottle will be hand numbered and a very limited supply is being produced. Look for it in late 2018; it will only be available at the Lodge at Cascade Brewing and at the Cascade Barrel House in Portland.”

Modern Times PDX is hosting its first Belmont Ltd. Vol. 1 specialty beer session today, all day long: “BELMONT LTD VOL. 1! The very first PDX installment of our rare-beer-centric hangout seshs will feature spectacularly funky barrel-aged & fruited sours. We’re sending up a treasure trove of special beers that will be available all day for flights and crowlers.”

Conversion Brewing (Lebanon): Tonight at 7pm the brewery is featuring its Head to Head beer tasting/education: “We will pit two beers in the same style against each other and see who comes out on top. This is a blind beer tasting with food pairing and we will have an open discussion about the beers and what we like about them. Cost is $10 and will include 2 samples of Kolsch/Cream Ale, special food pairing samples of Life’s a Peach Salad (with mixed greens, arugula, brie cheese, golden raisins, cherry tomatoes, toasted almonds, & a jalapeno peach vinaigrette), and a small pour of a Conversion beer.”
