Oregon Beer News, 07/25/2018

Oregon Beer, The Bier SteinHere is the news in Oregon beer for this Wednesday, July 25. As usual, I will be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news as I find it, so check back often for the latest. And as always, feel free to contact me with any beer news that I can get posted.

The Bier Stein (Eugene): The Stein’s Tapping Into Community fundraiser tonight teams up with StoveTeam International and Plank Town Brewing to raise money for StoveTeam International: “Join us on Wednesday, July 25th at 5pm as we tap a keg of Planktown Thursty Hills IPA to support StoveTeam International – a non profit organization changing the way families cook their meals in developing countries. 100% of the proceeds from this keg will benefit Stove Team International. “Smoke from indoor cooking fires is a leading cause of death in developing countries. Our program benefits the families and children impacted by smoke from indoor cooking fires. StoveTeam International assists with the production of safe, durable, efficient wood-burning Ecocina cookstoves to replace open fire cooking. We work with Rotary Clubs and help them place an order for stoves with a local entrepreneur to provide the necessary training and support to produce them. We have helped start stove projects in Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Guatemala.” – StoveTeam International”

McMenamins Highland Pub (Gresham) has its monthly limited-edition beer tasting from 5 to 8pm, featuring Oakie Dokie IPA with brewer Bryan Delfino: “Before other plants began to grow, oak forests would dominate the hilly landscapes in fields of tall grass all throughout the valley. You used to be able to see for miles through strands of oaken groves. To honor this old tree, we soaked an oak spiral in tequila as an ode to Sunflower IPA and the valley we all live in.”

Belmont Station (Portland) has extended Puckerfest for one more day! “We’ve been having so much fun with Puckerfest this year, we decided to extend it one more day. So, if you haven’t puckered up enough yet, you’ve got through Wednesday, July 25 to get your pucker on! Of course, there’s a lot of great non-sour beers for everyone to enjoy, too — as well as ciders and wine!”

Portland’s Breakside Brewery is releasing a new beer in its Rotating IPA Series — Thirst Trap, a hazy IPA (of course). According to Ben Edmunds, “What excites me about this particular beer is the way that it combines some hops that some brewers have written off as old school– Chinook, specifically– and really highlights just how contemporary a profile it really has.” From the press release: “This rich brew boasts a flavor and aroma profile that is at once surprising and entirely perfect, which can best be described as “Christmas in the tropics.” Thirst Trap is a study in balance. It combines the iconic complexity of the Mosaic hop with a generous helping of grapefruit-aroma-laden Simcoe and Chinook hops. This intricate aroma profile is balanced with a blend of four malts, including Two Row, Flaked Wheat, Munich and Light Crystal. Breakside brewers brought all these ingredients together to create a beer that has big notes of ruby red grapefruit, citrus zest and pine needles, paired with aromas reminiscent of guava, Sauvignon Blanc grapes, pineapple and mango. ABV: 6.4% / IBUs: 69”

Xylem Cider Works (Sherwood) will be at Three Mermaids Public House in Tigard tonight for a Cider Tap Takeover from 6 to 8pm: “Xylem Cider Works is taking over our Cider Taps. Join us and taste their awesome creations!”
