Oregon Beer, Portland Beer Week 2019Happy National Doughnut Day! The first Friday of June celebrates the doughnut, and has roots in the “Doughnut event created by The Salvation Army in Chicago in 1938 to honor those of their members who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I.” Be sure to pick up a dozen doughnuts today and select some perfect beer pairings to go with them! Here’s the news and events in Oregon’s beer scene for this Friday, June 7 and the weekend. Lots of Beer Week events going on, and maybe you can squeeze a doughnut in there somewhere too. Cheers!

Friday, June 7

To round out the cornucopia of Beer Weeks from around the state, Portland Beer Week begins on Friday, featuring 10 days of Portland beer celebration. Events for the opening day include:

Eugene Beer Week continues on Friday as well, with:

And Medford Beer Week continues as well, with the following Friday events:

Saturday, June 8

The new Burnt Field Brewing in Boardman celebrates its grand opening on Saturday: “Come help celebrate Burnt Field Brewing’s grand opening! We’ll start the day off with the “Beat the Brewer” 5k where you can try to outrun brewer Logan. That will be followed by a day full of live music and a corn-hole tournament in our fabulous yard. And of course we’ll have plenty of delicious pizza and beer available for purchase!”

Cascade Brewing (Portland) is hosting a garden party at its Lodge starting at 1pm: “We’re kicking off the summer season with an outdoor Garden Party! Join us in our backyard beer garden at 7424 SW Beaverton Hillsdale Hwy. The rain or shine event will feature beer and cocktails, live music, food specials, games, succulent planting, and information and education about conservation from non-profit partners. The event is free to attend; beer and food cost additional. Guests are invited to dress in their finest garden party attire; prizes will be awarded for the best dressed couple and the best hat. Highlighting the event will be the release of our newest sour ale, Garden Party, a blend of sour blond and wheat ales aged in white wine barrels for up to two years with Willamette Valley-grown chardonnay grapes followed by a late infusion of fresh Meyer lemon zest and dried elderflowers. Garden Party will be available on draft and in 500ml bottles at both our pubs as well as through distribution.”

McMenamins Thompson Brewery (Salem) hosts the 22nd Annual Barley Cup Brewfest on Saturday! “This brewfest began 22 years ago when brewer Chris Oslin formulated the idea based on his love of hockey. This event would turn into the Stanley Cup of brewfests! The winner only holds the growing trophy temporarily before it’s returned to its home at the Thompson, just like the Stanley Cup. This event turned into quite the community affair, as a local Salem Brew Club would do the judging. We think it’s still a matter of public interest as the voting is now done by you! Join us and try 22 total brewfest offerings. There will be 6 ciders and 16 Ales along with a discovery hunt. Also, don’t forget to drop your ballot.”

Fearless Brewing (Estacada) celebrates its 16th birthday on Saturday: “FEARLESS BREWING COMPANY SWEET 16 LAGER will be released at the brewery Sweet 16 Anniversary Party, Saturday, June 8th. Live music by Rick & Barb & Friends starting at 5:30 pm. Come join us for some great beer, friends, and fun. SKål!”
