Oregon Beer News, 05/29/2018

Oregon Beer, McMenaminsI hope everyone had a pleasant long weekend! It’s back to work now and I’ve got beer news in Oregon beer for this shortened week and today, Tuesday the 29th. As usual I will be updating this post occasionally throughout the day so check back in from time to time.

For these last few days of May, McMenamins is still supporting the Oregon Humane Society with Muttly Brew Pale Ale, with select locations such as Portland’s Chapel Pub donating $1 per pint and $2 per growler of the brew to the OHS. About the beer and OHS: “Founded in 1868 by noted humanitarian Thomas Lamb Eliot, the Oregon Humane Society is the third-oldest humane society in the nation and the oldest in the Northwest. They’re celebrating their 150th Anniversary this year, so we made them a beer to honor the occasion and help in the fundraising efforts! This Pale Ale is delightfully balanced with flavors of tropical fruit and a crisp, hazy body.”

Tuesdays are Community Pints days with Deschutes Brewery, with each location donating $1 from every pint of beer sold to a local non-profit organization. For this final Tuesday in May, the Bend Pub and the Tasting Room are donating to Tour des Chutes, which supports Central Oregon cancer victims. In Portland, the re-opened pub is donating to A Hope For Autism Foundation. Make sure to get down there and help out with a pint or three!

Cascade Brewing (Portland): This past Friday, Cascade released Pêche Fumé 2017 to limited inventory and distribution: “The Northwest sour ale is a blend of wheat ales brewed with cherrywood smoked malt and aged in oak barrels for up to 14 months with Northwest-grown peaches. The limited offering is available in 750 ml bottles and on draft through Cascade’s regular distribution channels, as well as in-house at both its Portland-area pubs. Delicately balancing bold elements of smoke and fruit, Pêche Fumé captures notes of fresh peaches and campfire smoke with hints of dried apples and lemon zest. Pale gold in color and light in body, the beer comes in at 6.8 percent alcohol by volume. Pêche Fumé is a limited release with only 400 cases and 100 kegs produced.”

This Saturday, June 2, The Bier Stein in Eugene is hosting its third annual Invitational Beer Fest from noon to 8pm: “Oregon Wood Fired Pizza will be slinging savory slices as local rock band High Tolerance and funk band Soul Vibrator provide jams for your jolly good beer journey. The Bier Stein’s flavor packed menu will also be available during the event. Whether amateur or aficionado, guests can dive into the rich craft beer community and find the perfect pairing for their palate. Each of the breweries will bring 2 unique brews to the fest!” Sounds like a great day in Eugene on Saturday!

Oregon City Brewing‘s Tuesday Charity Pint Night is benefiting Kraxberger Middle School, starting at 5pm: “Come down and help the Kraxberger Middle School’s graduating 8th Graders as they fundraise in order to celebrate a year of hard work!” I believe the brewery donates $1 from every pint sold, so get down there and help out.

Coin Toss Brewing (Oregon City) has teamed up with the Portland Pickles baseball team to brew the official “Pickle Beer” for the team; from the press release: “Craft beer lovers and baseball fans will be able to “get their pickle on” at all Portland Pickles baseball games this summer, thanks to Coin Toss Brewing Co.’s “Caught in a Pickle Lager.” The beer is a unique and refreshing blend of bread-and-butter pickle juice and the brewery’s house lager. Originally created as a one-off beer for the Portland Pickles Great West Brew Fest in 2016, Caught in a Pickle Lager is a fan favorite every time it appears at the Coin Toss taproom in Oregon City. Look for Caught in a Pickle Lager on tap at the main tap trailer at Walker Stadium starting Thursday, May 31, when the Pickles host a pre-season exhibition prior to the Home Opener on Friday, June 1.” A lager… with pickle juice added…
