Oregon Beer, Deschutes BreweryI hope you had a great long weekend and are ready to start the new week! Here’s the Oregon beer news for this May 28, going into this final week of May. As always I’ll be updating this post throughout the day with the latest news so check back often.

Tuesdays are Community Pints days with Deschutes Brewery, where $1 from every pint sold goes to benefit a local non-profit organization local to each Deschutes location. For this final Tuesday of May, the Bend locations (the Public House and the Tasting Room) are benefiting the High Desert Food & Farm Alliance, while in Portland, the Portland Pub is benefiting Kinship House of Portland. Be sure to stop in to one of the locations and help out with a pint or three today.

Oregon City Brewing has its Charity Pint Night today starting at 5pm, benefiting North Willamette Valley Habitat for Humanity: “One dollar of every OCB pint, taster, soda, crowler and growler purchased will go to NWV Habitat. We’ll also be kicking off our House that Beer Built Passport. You can purchase yours at the event or online (beginning June 1, 2019) at http://nwvhabitat.org/events/house-beer-built. Thank you to our friends at Oregon City Brewing for your support in both the Charity Pint Night and the Passport!”

There are several beer fests going on this weekend around the state you might want to be aware of:

  • Friday the 31st the Sunriver Brewfest kicks off to run Friday and Saturday at Sunriver Resort, with two dozen breweries pouring over 50 beers. The $20 price gets you a mug and five taster tokens, with additional tokens in packs of five for $5.
  • The Bier Stein in Eugene is hosting its 4th Annual Invitational Beer Fest all day Saturday: “This year’s Invitational will feature beer and cider from 36 of the best producers in Oregon. Whether amateur or aficionado, guests can dive into the rich craft community by exploring more than 60 craft beers and ciders. As always, seasonal, one-off, cellared, barrel-aged, and “altered” beers will be the focus of the fest. A brewer or representative from each brewery will be pouring beer from noon until 3pm.” $25 gets you the glass and five tasting tickets, with additional tickets $1 each.
  • Stickmen Brewing (Lake Oswego) is holding its 4th Annual Kettle Sour Fest on Saturday, featuring 15-20 local kettle soured beers, with cost of $20 in advance, $25 at the door which gets you the glass plus 8 tasting tickets. Extra ticket pricing $1 as expected.

Yachats Brewing has an… interesting beer on tap now that you may or may not want to try: Wapiti Fauna Ale, made with elk. “Brewed with fresh elk heart and tongue in the mash, and then dry hopped with house made elk jerky-this is one you arent going to want to miss! Award winning, Wapiti, pours pale amber with a white head, and a slightly smokey nose. A well balanced blend of malt and hops creates a creamy mouthfeel and reveals the character of the locally raised elk. Brewed with the utmost respect in hopes to honor one of Yachats most majestic, wild, native, locals.”

Spider City Brewing (Bend) has two new beers going on tap today: “We’re tapping two smash beers today! A Pilsner/Ekuanot at 4.8% and 30 IBU and a Pale/Waimea at 6.2% and 30 IBU. Come down and try both! We’re open 2-8pm today!”

Fort George Brewery (Astoria) has a benefit night supporting the Clatsop County Master Gardeners Association tonight starting at 4:30pm: “There are awesome raffle prizes, including planters, bonsai, private yoga classes, gardening help, and so much more to give your summer of gardening a jump start! Lots of beautiful plants will be available to take home (donation appreciated). A pollinator workshop will be set up to give you the best advice on supporting pollinators in your garden. Proceeds go to our annual high school scholarship, Seed to Supper classes teaching basic gardening and how to grow your own food, the Alderbrook Learning Garden that donated over 800 lbs of fresh produce to Clatsop Community Action last year, and to our educational support for Clatsop County residents.”
