Oregon Beer News, 05/23/2018

Oregon Beer, Sunriver BrewingHalfway through the week and I hope it’s going well for you! Here’s the news in Oregon beer for Wednesday, May 23, which I will be updating periodically throughout the day. If you have any news to share, please let me know and that is something I can get updated.

Central Oregon Beer Week continues today, with the following things going on:

Belmont Station (Portland) welcomes New Braunfels Brewing from Texas for a tasting event and meet the founder at 5pm: “We are super excited to be the first to welcome New Braunfels’ “Pucker Gangster” Kelly Meyer to Portland! Come say hi, learn about this amazing Texas sour house, and taste what they’re all about! Of course, we also will have bottles available to take home! Here’s what Kelly will be sampling: Blondine Sour Wheat, Das Lokal Barrel-Aged Sour, Heavenescent Barrel-Aged Sour, and Saison de Roncier Brambleberry Saison”

Gigantic Brewing (Portland) has two new beers coming out and heading to the distributor: Cloud City Hazy IPA (because of course) and Sassy Pony Pale Ale. The 7% abv Cloud City is described as: “Dreamed up in a galaxy far, far away… this super juicy, soft and fluffy IPA is loaded with Galaxy, Citra, and Crystal hops creating a tropical, citrusy and dank deliciousness.” For Sassy Pony (5.7% abv): “Deliciously hoppy pale made with Citra, Simcoe and Cascade hops. Huge fresh citrus aroma and flavor. Light caramel malt with a nice dry finish.”

And Portland’s Roscoe’s is hosting a Gigantic brewer night tonight starting at 6pm: “Come join the Gigantic crew at Roscoe’s for a tap takeover and brewers night! Final awesome tap list including the new Cloud City IPA, Big Brett Love, Sassy Pony Pale, and Play Date collar with three weavers!”

7 Devils Brewing (Coos Bay) is hosting its South Slough Spruce Release Party today starting at 6pm: “Join us for a beer release party at Seven Devils Brewery with the Friends of South Slough! Seven Devils Brewery will be releasing their South Slough Spruce pale ale. This pale ale was brewed with fresh spruce tips harvested locally by volunteers from South Slough Reserve. Its light and malty with a refreshing ZING that will transport you to the misty coast range of Oregon. $1 of every pint sold will be donated to the Friends of South Slough, a local non-profit organization dedicated to public education about estuaries. South Slough will be there with samples of spruce tip food items, program calendars and membership information. See you there!”

Plank Town Brewing (Springfield): From 5 to 8pm Plank Town is hosting a fundraiser for Springfield students with Springfield Education Foundation. “Please join us May 23 for some great beer and food. A portion of all sales will go towards supporting student success and innovative teaching in Springfield.”

McMenamins Tavern & Pool (Portland) has its Friends and Family Night benefit for Lift Urban beginning at 5pm. “On Friends and Family Nights, bring everyone you know out for burgers, beers, wine, cocktails, salads, sandwiches, tater tots, the day’s specials and more – because at the end of the night, 20% of the evening’s total sales are donated to the beneficiary! The more you order, the more is earned for a good cause!”

2 Towns Ciderhouse (Corvallis) has a new summer limited-release cider that sounds interesting — Easy Peasy, a lemon and raspberry cider. From the press release: “Meyer lemons and Northwest raspberries radiate in the latest Limited Release cider from 2 Towns Ciderhouse. Easy Peasy is an easy-drinking, thirst-quenching style of cider in a category of its own with 5% ABV, a tart ‘lemon squeezy’ character, and a subtle raspberry tartness. Easy Peasy is available now through the end of August, so there’s plenty time to kick back and enjoy drinking ‘Easy’ this summer!”

Three Mugs Brewing (Hillsboro) has its Tongue Smack IPA back on tap today, the brewery’s flagship India pale ale. Get over there if you’re a fan.

Portland Brewing has a number of pilot batch beers on tap, beers you won’t find among their market offerings: “Our brewers have been working hard to create a series of pilot batch offerings at the brewery! You’ll only find these unique beers here, and if you have any questions, our Cicerone certified staff can help answer any questions! Pilot Batch List: Saison Amigos De Pomelo, Pink Boots IPA, Helles On Wheels, and Red X S.M.A.S.H.”
