I hope everyone had a safe and quiet St. Patrick’s Day yesterday! The Oregon beer news returns this week for a post green beer update of the news and happenings from around the state. As usual this post will continue to be updated through the day with the latest, so keep checking back in (hit that “reload” button!).

Double Mountain introduces Burnside Skatepark IPA

Hood River’s Double Mountain Brewery released its latest seasonal, a collaboration with the Burnside Skatepark in Portland that helps raise money for the public skatepark. Details:

Thirty years ago, a group of skaters ventured down to the then seedy underbelly of the Burnside Bridge beginning work on an illegal, non-sanctioned skatepark. Burnside is now arguably the world’s most famous skatepark. What started with a small transition on the back wall, laid the foundation for a subcultural icon and community pillar. From the early days, the park became a central point for skate culture and art creating a presence whose impact is even more prevalent today.

While Burnside still thrives, the fight for existence under the bridge continues. Throughout the years they have confronted large hurdles and are currently facing the earthquake retrofit of the Burnside bridge. Due to this massive bridge overhaul, large costs loom for the nonprofit that manages the park. Therefore, a portion of the proceeds from this beer goes toward protecting this important icon.

The beer is 6.4% ABV with 50 IBUs, available in 500ml bottles and on draft.

News and updates from 7 Devils

7 Devils Brewing in Coos Bay shared the latest updates this week in its email newsletter, including progress on its waterfront ale house construction:

Its coming along folks! Walls are going up, menus are being written, and equipment is stacking up in the warehouse. Soon we’ll be hiring cooks, servers, bartenders, hosts, dishwashers and a general manager. If all goes well, we’ll be open by the summer.

The brewery also announced the return of its Symbiosis Fig Stout, an annual collaboration with Astoria’s Reach Break Brewing, as well as expanded spring hours (open until 9pm on weekdays and 10pm on Friday and Saturday), and the start of its spring food menu. Since Coos County is still in “Extreme Risk” for covid, it’s all either take-out or outdoor patio dining, so plan accordingly.

New cans from Binary Brewing

Portland nanobrewery Binary Brewing has two new springtime beers of its own dropping: Left on Read Red Ale and BürgerTime Smash Ale. Details:

Getting in the groove of monthly can releases these 2 new beers round an available six pack through Uptown Beer Co.’s online store www.uptownbeer.co and Running Man Distributors.

BürgerTime Smash Ale is a celebration of Rough Draft Burger Shop which is a now famous food cart located at BinaryBrewing.co’s brewery and Uptown Beer Co. Rough Draft celebrates the cheeseburger by stripping away the frills and perfecting the core: crispy grilled meat and melty cheese. We both agree it’s the simple things that matter in this often too complicated world. To join in on the celebration of simplicity, BürgerTime perfected the core of El Dorado hops and Two Row malt, to create a crisp single malt and single hop ale with a touch of bitterness. Notes of stonefruit and pine pair perfectly with 100% smashed beef. Grab a bag of burgers and a 4 pack togo or enjoy Uptown Beer Co’s covered heated patio with a pint and a handful of cheeseburger because it’s BürgerTime somewhere!

[Left on Read Red Ale] We’ve all been there, on the wrong side of a one sided conversation. This classic Dry Irish Red Ale will be there for you even when no one else will. Deep copper in color with heavy notes of caramel on the noise, this surprisingly dry and balanced red gives you the malty notes you are looking for without being too heavy. With heavy amounts of Irish Pale Malt and Golding Hops this classic somehow tastes new and fresh. Get over that bae that is ignoring you and give them a “Red” receipt of your own.

Bend Brewing partners with Newport Avenue Market to benefit Hunger Prevention Coalition

Bend Brewing Company announced that it is partnering with Bend’s Newport Avenue Market on a new beer, Not Your Usual IPA, the proceeds from which will benefit Hunger Prevention Coalition of Central Oregon. Details:

Two iconic Central Oregon brands, Bend Brewing Company (BBC) and Newport Avenue Market, have teamed up to create a limited-release beer to benefit the Hunger Prevention Coalition of Central Oregon. Titled “Not Your Usual IPA,” the beer will be a limited-edition 16oz can release on March 19, exclusively available at Bend Brewing Company, Newport Avenue Market and Oliver Lemon’s in Terrebonne and Sisters.

Brewed with Comet, El Dorado, Azacca, and Amarillo hops, balanced by Munich and Caramalts, and weighing in at 6.5% ABV and 60 IBU, Not Your Usual IPA combines classic Northwest IPA hop flavor with modern “juicy” hops to create a beer that encapsulates the spirit of tradition and being on the cutting edge that Newport Avenue Market and Bend Brewing Company share.

The beer is releasing Friday the 19th; I’ll post the full press release as well.

McMenamins celebrates 35 years of Ruby Ale starting Friday

Starting Friday, March 19 (tomorrow), McMenamins is kicking off a week-long celebration of the 35th birthday of Ruby Ale across all of its locations:

The big day is March 21, but 35 years is a big deal, so we’re celebrating all week! Celebrate with Ruby specials: $4.75 pints, $10 growler fills, and a Ruby Star Chicken Salad.

In celebration of #35, we are releasing a new version of Ruby Ale!

Ruby Royale
Our classic Ruby takes on a Rubenesque figure when we double the raspberries and the malt in every batch. This special brew takes the tart effervescence that Ruby drinkers love and layers in a deeper raspberry flavor, earning this Imperial Raspberry Goddess the name Ruby Royale. Find her at most locations in cans to go!

Double Ruby!
