Oregon Beer News for Tuesday, March 9, 2021

It’s Oregon beer news roundup time once again, pointing to the various news, events, new beers, and so on from the Oregon beer and cider scene. The news for this Tuesday, March 9 kicks off with items from Deschutes, Ex Novo, Montavilla Brew Works, and more—and it will be updated throughout the afternoon with the latest news as I find it. Cheers!

Deschutes Brewery’s Community Pints returns

Deschutes Brewery brought its Community Pints program back, at least at the Bend Pub, starting today:

Drink beer for the community! Seem easy enough? Community Pints is back and for the month of March $1 from every pint sold on Tuesday’s will be donated to the Latino Community Association

With Deschutes County dropping to “Moderate” covid risk today, allowing additional opportunity for grabbing a pint or three, it’s a good time to do so at the Deschutes Bend Pub if you’re going to be out. Community Pints is a great program that raises good money for the partner organizations; each month the brewery selects a new beneficiary and raises funds from every pint sold every Tuesday.

Ex Novo’s Eliot IPA gets new packaging

Portland’s Ex Novo Brewing announced a new look and package for its flagship Eliot IPA today:

Big news today, Eliot is making the switch to 12oz cans with a brand new design! New look, same NWIPA we all know and love. We just canned our first batch of this yesterday and it’s available now for local delivery and shipping, pickup at our Oregon pubs, and at discerning grocers and bottle shops in the PNW and beyond. Grab a sixer and let us know what you think of the new look! We’ll be phasing out the 16oz cans but for now both options are currently available, and both are super fresh!

New Pink Boots Society collab beer from Montavilla Brew Works

Yesterday, International Women’s Day, Montavilla Brew Works canned up its Pink Boots Society collaboration IPA, Activity Grrrl:

To celebrate Women’s History Month and the Pink Boots Society Collaboration Brew Day, we invited Felicia to design a very special IPA. “Activity Grrrl” is a Pacific Northwest IPA, dry hopped with Yakima Chief Pink Boots Blend 2020 which impart tropical, herbal, citrus & woody aromatic qualities. Canned on International Women’s Day! Also, the beer recipe and brewing, brand name and label art was designed by the ladies of MBW.
A portion of the sales of Activity Grrrl will benefit the Portland chapter of the Pink Boots Society. The Pink Boots Society works to ASSIST, INSPIRE, and ENCOURAGE women fermented/alcoholic beverage professionals through EDUCATION.

The beer (along with the rest of Montavilla’s lineup) is available for purchase online here.

2 Towns releases Imperial Strawberry & Raspberry specialty cider

Corvallis’ 2 Towns Ciderhouse released a draft-only 9% imperial cider today, Imperial Strawberry & Raspberry:

Spring is around the corner, and we feel like there is no better way to celebrate the change of season than with a brand new, draft-only, specialty release!

A heavily fruited cider, our Imperial Strawberry & Raspberry cider is full of fresh berry character and aged on bourbon cured oak, which really rounds out the sharp berry acidity. This cider reminds us of the first days of sweet, sweet sunshine after a cold dark winter. Don’t worry though! At 9% ABV, this vibrant cider is sure to keep you warm as we transition to springtime.

Great Notion’s comfy jammy pants

Speaking of fruits, Portland’s Great Notion Brewing re-releases an “old favorite” with its pastry/smoothie fruit sour Jammy Pants:

You know we can never get enough berries over here at Great Notion, so we brewed up a batch of an old favorite. Jammy Pants: Boysenberry, Blackcurrant, and Guava is jam-packed with tart berries and a bit of tropical guava for sweetness. Curl up in your softest, coziest pants and wait out the rest of the cold, rainy weather with a glass in hand. Grab a pack on Wednesday, when the newest Jammy Pants hits the app at 9 am for pickup orders at all locations (pickup begins at noon), local PDX delivery, and shipping. (7% abv) $20/4pack

New brews from ForeLand

ForeLand Beer is a new brewery located in McMinnville that I haven’t covered here yet, headed up by brewer Sean Burke, formerly of Von Ebert and The Commons. The New School had a short writeup on Burke and ForeLand last September. Cans from the brewery are in the marketplace now, and two new beers are out in particular: Senke Pils and Nameless Rivers.

We released Senke Pils last week. This beer is a nod to the wonderful pilsners from the Westphalia region in Germany. Made up of high quality Pilsner malt and Hallertau Mittelfruh hops, this beer showcases it’s limited ingredients perfectly.

Last week we also released Nameless Rivers. This West Coast IPA features Galaxy, Simcoe and Strata hops. It has a soft pillowy mouth feel that makes a great base for this beautiful hop combination.
