Oregon Beer, The Bier SteinHere is the news in beer from around Oregon for this final day in February (already!). As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often for updates. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated too.

The Bier Stein (Eugene) is hosting Corvallis’ Nectar Creek Meadery for a mead tasting tonight from 6 to 8pm: “Join us for a tasting of Nectar Creek’s newest release: Blackberry Mead with Oak. Deep crimson in color, this specialty mead was made with raw wildflower honey and a copious amount of blackberries, creating pungent aromas of fresh picked berries and vanilla. Fermented and aged on American oak, this berrylicious mead has a velvety flavor and mouthfeel reminiscent of a fine Pinot Noir. 8% ABV”

Cascade Brewing (Portland): Their 7th annual Sour Fruit Fest begins today, and runs through Sunday, featuring many fruited sour beers at both the Barrel House and the (née Raccoon) Lodge. “The Sour Fruit Fest will feature more than four dozen exclusive Cascade sour fruit beers on rotation throughout the week, with at least 25 sour beers on tap each day at the Barrel House, and 10 at the Lodge. The Barrel House will also offer vintage bottles for sale. Admission is free, beer tasting costs additional. The following five beers will headline each day at both locations:
Wednesday, 2/28: Shrieking Violet
Thursday, 3/1: Shiro Plum
Friday, 3/2: Kentucky Peach
Saturday, 3/3: Nectarine Dream
Sunday, 3/4: Cherry Bourbonic”

McMenamins Cornelius Pass Roadhouse (Hillsboro) is holding their limited-edition Dark Beer & Light Dessert Tasting tonight from 6 to 9pm, featuring six beers worth checking out: Billy’s Barreled Black Widow from McMenamins Cornelius Pass Roadhouse Brewery, Darkside of the Raspberry CDA from McMenamins Wilsonville Brewery, Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Terminator from McMenamins Thompson Brewery, Shady’s Back Whiskey Stout from McMenamins Concordia Brewery, Daybreak Coffee Amber Coffee Ale from Deep Space Brewing, and Night Moves Chocolate Stout from McMenamins Highland Brewery. Try them all!

2 Towns Ciderhouse (Corvallis): Their current limited release cider, Passion Statement, is available in bottles now; from the press release: “Passion Statement… pairs flavorful Yellow Maracuyá passion fruit with fresh-pressed Northwest apples and D’Anjou pears. Sensational and exotic, Passion Statement stands out from the crowd with a flashy tropical tang that turns heads and tips pint glasses! When you try it, you won’t be able to look away when you find it at your local grocery or at select pubs.  With 1.3 pounds of passion fruit per gallon, Passion Statement’s richness is best paired with more delicate flavors such as those of Hawaiian Haupia coconut custard, Madagascar vanilla creme brulee, or even Norwegian Krumkake cookies. If you are looking for a juicy addition to a classy brunch, try a Passion Statement mimosa made with orange and guava juices.”

Ochoco Brewing (Prineville) is launching a weekly Wednesday fundraiser starting tonight: “Hey All, today we’re launching Blue and Gold Night at Ochoco Brewing Company!!! We’re partnering with Prineville Beef Company and Granny Faye’s Bakery to help raise money for the CCHS Booster Club! $1 from every beer and $1 from every burger sold on Wednesday nights will go directly to the booster club and into the sports programs at CCHS.
