Oregon Beer, Saraveza

Happy Hump Day! Here is the news and events roundup in Oregon beer for this Wednesday, February 20 (also, randomly, National Cherry Pie Day). As usual I’ll be updating this post throughout the day with the latest news as I find it, so check back occasionally for updates.

Saraveza (Portland) is hosting Washington’s Dwinell Country Ales for a special bottle release tonight from 6 to 9pm: “Justin Leigh from Dwinell Country Ales will be here to celebrate their first bottle releases. We’ll have all 3 bottles available and several of their delicious Farmhouse-inspired beer on draft. The bottles we’ll have available: Lookie Loo (Cherry Farmhouse Ale), Punchline (Sangiovese Farmhouse Ale), Levelheaded (Wild Ale).”

McMenamins Murray & Allen (Beaverton) has a limited-edition beer tasting tonight from 5 to 8pm, featuring a special beer brewed at Oak Hills Pub by brewer Dan Black, Mountain Cow Imperial Red: “Around the 10,000 foot mark on a recent trip through the La Salle National Forest, we came across cows grazing on the side of Peale Mountain. Mountain cows are a lot like regular cows but much more agile as they easily hop up the side of the rocky slopes. This Red is big and bold like the mountain cow, and it’ll easily make the trip to your glass, even though it doesn’t look like it can hop.”

Little Beast Brewing (Portland) has a double beer release today featuring beers inspired by wine: “Inspired by Oregon’s beloved wine makers, we’ve crafted two very singular beers: Radical Forces (Oak-Aged Ale Fermented on Whole Cluster Pinot Noir Grapes) and Bière Gris (Oak-Aged Ale w/ Pinot Gris Juice, in collaboration w/ Boedecker Cellars Winery + Tasting Room). Both beers will be available in 375 mL bottles and only Bière Gris will be available on draft. As well, we’ll be pouring Boedecker Cellars Pinot Gris.”

Belmont Station (Portland) welcomes Breakside Brewery for the bottle release of Oligarch, Breakside’s massive imperial stout, along with a number of variants: “Breakside is here to release Oligarch, their LARGEST barrel-aged beer release to date. Oligarch is a barrel-aged imperial Russian Stout and they have done more than one variation! We will be showcasing all of them on draft in the taproom for you to try and help you decide which one you’re going to bring home.” Variants include Bocconotto (with chocolate, cinnamon, almonds, and lemon zest), Candy Cap (with mushrooms), and Champurrado (with chocolate, vanilla, and corn).

Occidental Brewing (Portland) is hosting the can release party for the new 12-ounce cans of Edel-Hell Helles Lager out today: “We are so excited to be releasing our Helles Lager in SIX packs, we’re deciding to throw a little shindig. We will be serving cans of Helles in the taproom for $3 a piece and there will be six packs available to take home. Please feel free to bring your favorite can koozie along with you. Bonus points if your koozie is funny, creative, and a little distasteful. At 8:00 we will decide which one is prize-worthy. Hope to see you guys there!” The party is from 6 to 9pm.

Oakshire Brewing (Eugene) is hosting a Pints for Pisgah Fundraiser today from 5 to 7pm, benefiting the Friends of Buford Park & Mt. Pisgah organization: “Join us at Oakshire Brewing Public House for a Pints for Pisgah Fundraiser on Wed. Feb. 20. Oakshire will donate $1/pint sold all day to the Friends of Buford Park & Mt. Pisgah to support our habitat restoration work. Meet our staff and visit our table from 5-7pm. We’ll have merch for sale, a raffle with fun prizes, and info on how to get involved.”

Bridge 99 Brewery (Bend) has a new beer out and on tap now: Fly Rod IPA. “Clean and dry to the palate with a surprisingly bold hop presence that comes from utilizing a drier yeast and then dry hopping with Mosiac and Citra in the last stage of brewing.”

North Forty Beer Company (Roseburg) also has a new beer on tap, Big Iron Imperial IPA: “A resinous and hop forward flavor profile is carried by notes of caramel and honey. The bold character of Simcoe and Summit hops blend into a grapefruit and piney nose, rich with hop punch and warm bready appeal. The dry finish and smooth body on this Imperial IPA, hide its aggressive character. It’s dense but tasteful, a little zest and a little spice meld into the subtle heat. This beer has it all.”

And Portland’s Second Profession Brewing also has a new beer alert: “IPA Soundsystem v1.2! Our rotating experimental West Coast IPA series. This version traces its roots to two of the original hop varieties that started it all: Columbus and Cascade. We dedicate this beer to one of the most influential and experimental bands, @lcdsoundsystem, this beer tastes like @daftpunk is playing at your house.”
