Oregon Beer, KLCC Brewfest

TGIF and happy Friday! Here’s the Oregon beer news for this weekend of February 8–10, rounding up the various items and events from around the state. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day on Friday, so check back often for the latest news and weekend tidbits.

Friday, Feb. 8

The 2019 KLCC Brewfest kicks off Friday and runs through Saturday! This is Eugene’s premier brewfest event that runs 5 to 11pm Friday, and 1 to 11pm Saturday, and costs $20 for one day or $25 for both. “A 21+ event that features beers and ciders from 80+ breweries all over the Pacific Northwest, California, and more! We have over 200 types of beers and ciders to sample! DJ Connah Jay will be playing Friday night, and Fortunes Folly & Inner Limits will take over Saturday! The event includes a giant music sale, fun photo booth, collaboration brews, hourly special pours, and a homebrew competition! Benefiting KLCC 89.7 FM, this is an event you will not want to miss.” (Via Facebook page.)

McMenamins 23rd Avenue Bottle Shop (Portland) is hosting a Lindemans Beer & Cocktail night from 7 to 9pm: “Valentines Day is just around the corner and to celebrate, we will be pouring samples of Lindemans Lambics and offering a selection of Lindemans Beer Cocktails. Cheers!” First one that popped into my head would be Framboise with a chocolate stout.

And speaking of stouts, Portland’s Imperial Bottle Shop on Alberta is kicking off a weekend-long pastry stout “Bake Sale” on Friday: “Why eat your dessert when you can drink it infused with alcohol? All weekend long we’ll be pouring a great lineup of pastry stouts and such. Available by the glass, 4 oz sample pour, or try all 9 for $25 ($4 off).” Including beers from Great Notion, Modern Times, Ruse Brewing, The Bruery, and more.

Deschutes Brewery (Bend) is hosting its Chocolate Beer Dinner starting at 6pm at its Mountain Room at the production brewery. There will be five courses of chocolate-inspired dishes paired with a variety of beers. It’s now sold out but you could always contact the brewery to see if any spots open up.

Belmont Station (Portland) kicks off a barleywine weekend, running Friday through Sunday: “Barleywine is a favorite style of most of our staff and a good percentage of our regular guests. So in honor of a often looked over style and the good folks that support us and drink this strong, rich, malty, hoppy, deliciousness all year long this ones for you. It’s also for the good folks that may not know of the style or haven’t tried much Barelywine this event is for you to.”

7 Devils Brewing (Coos Bay) has a tasty new stout releasing Friday: “Oh man!! It is that time of year again! The Symbiosis Fig Stout is back!! This is our annual collaborative brew with our friends at Reach Break Brewery. Today is release day! Come on down and enjoy the benefits of a beautiful collaboration!”

Saturday, Feb. 9

Three Creeks Brewing (Sisters) is hosting its annual Beer & Dessert Pairing on Saturday starting at 3pm: “Just around the corner from Valentine’s Day, grab a date or a friend, or go stag and treat yourself! Join us, Saturday, February 9th at 3pm for the 7th Annual Beer & Dessert Pairing! We will be featuring some of our favorite dessert beers with delicious appetizers by head chef, Mark Perry. Gratuity is included with your $25 ticket. Reservations are required. Please call 541.549.1963 for reservations and details.”

Portland’s Saraveza is teaming up with Block 15 Brewery for a week of Portland Bourbon Month: “Block 15 is coming back to Saraveza for the Portland leg of their Bourbon Month beer release! This time around we’re excited to have an entire week to celebrate with this phenomenal brewery. From Saturday, February 9th to Thursday, February 14th we’ll be tapping bourbon barrel-aged Super Nebula Imperial Stout variants, bourbon barrel-aged sours, vintage, unique, and delicious beers each day. We’ll be selling bottles of all of the Bourbon Month releases. We’ll have food specials and unique pairings. We’ll have it all!” The full schedule is at the link.

Baerlic Brewing (Portland) is hosting the sixth Stout Bout homebrew competition on Saturday—this is the public tasting for everyone to check out, not just the actual judging. “6th Annual all stout-style homebrew competion. Come out to Baerlic Brewing on February 9th to enter our raffle with awesome prizes from our sponsors, and also come help us judge our People’s Choice awards!” And of course, all the beers are stouts. It takes place from 2 to 5pm.

McMenamins Hillsdale Brewery (Portland) is celebrating its 35th birthday on Saturday: “Big day for our little pub! Hillsdale was McMenamins’ third location and Oregon’s very first brewpub, and we’re celebrating with cake, a Passport birthday stamp and specially brewed birthday beer: Spanish Coffee Terminator Stout, to be exact. Happy birthday, indeed.”

McMenamins 23rd Avenue Bottle Shop is hosting a Gruet Sparkling Wine Tasting from 2 to 4pm: “Visit the Bottle Shop to sample a selection of sparkling wines from Gruet Winery. We will be offering 10% off on all to-go bottles of sparkling wine during the tasting.”

General News

In the latest e-newsletter from Pacific City’s Pelican Brewing is a new beer coming out by the end of the month: The Brewed Abides, a White Russian-inspired milk stout. “All brewers like a cocktail from time to time, but how about the best of both worlds in this cocktail inspired beer? Taking inspiration from the classic “White Russian” cocktail as well as the movie that made it famous is “The Brewed Abides”, a Milk Stout with vanilla beans, fresh roasted coffee, and cocoa nibs. This unique beer pours a chocolate color with dense off white head and entices the senses with an aromatic bouquet of vanilla, coffee, and dark chocolate.”

Cascade Brewing (Portland) has its Glueh Kriek on this weekend to fight the cold weather: “Need a warm up from the cold weather? Head on down to The Barrel House this weekend and grab yourself a warm glass of our Glueh Kriek! Glueh Kriek is a blend of sour red and blond ales aged in oak wine barrels for 14 months with Bing and sour pie cherries, then sweetened with wildflower honey and infused with warm winter spices.”
