Oregon Beer, Full Sail Brewing

Here is the news in Oregon beer for this Wednesday, February 6. As usual I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news as I find it, so check back in occasionally. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.

Low-alcohol, low-carb light beers seem to be all the rage these days, and now Hood River’s Full Sail Brewing is getting into the game with new Session Light Craft Lager: “At 100 calories and only 6 carbs, new Session Light – from the award-winning Full Sail Brewery is perfect for anyone looking to keep the calories low but their standards high. Session Light is a Northwest take on a classic American lager, brewed with mountain spring water, malted barley, and Glacier and Sterling hops, all fresh from Full Sail’s Pacific Northwest backyard. In keeping with the market shift toward better-for-you, healthy booze, consumers are craving not just a light beer, but one with flavor and nuance, and Session Light delivers. Session Light is available now on draft. Session Light will also be available in 12 oz. slim cans in 6-packs and 12-packs, and in bottles in the Session Mashup Summer Variety Pack this spring.” The beer is 3.6% ABV and 15 IBUs.

Belmont Station (Portland) is hosting an evening with founder of Perennial Artisan Ales, Emily Wymore, tonight from 5 to 8pm: “Join us for a meet and greet with Perennial co-founder Emily Wymore. Emily will be hanging out talking beer and sharing the good word that is Perennial Artisan Ales. Along with all this great draft offerings we will have a special treat for those Belgian beer lovers. Southside Blond, a hoppy Belgian style blond ale in cans.”

The Bier Stein (Eugene) is the site of the Eugene launch of the Ecliptic Brewing and Brooklyn Brewery collaboration beer release, brewed for Ecliptic’s fifth anniversary: “Ecliptic is celebrating their 5th year of business by collaborating with 5 different breweries in 2019. The first collaborative release is a Tangerine Farmhouse Ale brewed with Brooklyn Brewery – ‘Fresh, citrusy Tang like aromas, slight hoppiness from Sorachi Ace complimented by tangerine rind, Belgian yeast spicy-fruitiness in balance with the Tangerine.'” The fun starts at 5pm.

And speaking of Ecliptic Brewing, the brewery is releasing a wild-sounding as part of its Seasonal Series this year: Flamingo Planet Guava Blonde Ale. From the press release: “Originally brewed for the 2018 Oregon Brewer’s Festival, Flamingo Planet Guava Blonde Ale has flown its way onto Ecliptic Brewing’s Seasonal Series line-up this year. An easy drinking blonde ale brewed with guava, 100% pale malt provides a light body and golden color. Lightly hopped with Amarillo and Crystal, this fruit-forward beer is sure to blast you away to a tropical planet paradise. Flamingo Planet will release in mid March and will be available through the end of May. It will be released in both draft and 6-pack cans throughout Ecliptic Brewing’s distribution network.”

It appears that Portland’s Burnside Brewing has closed suddenly, without warning. The first concrete evidence was a photo on Facebook of a letter posted on the door, which reads in part, “The locks to the premises have been changed by the Landlord in accordance with §§ 17 & 18 of the Lease for Tenant’s failure to pay amounts due thereunder (as you know, no payments have been made to Landlord in months).” (Meaning Burnside was apparently in arrears.) And the New School has a story out with additional details now as well. All in all, this was a surprising closure and loss to the Portland beer scene.

BridgePort Brewing (Portland) is hosting a meet the makers event with a beer and whiskey tasting today from 4 to 6pm: “Join us at BridgePort BrewPub for a Teeling Whiskey and BridgePort Brewing Beer tasting. BridgePort’s own Master Brewery Jeff Edgerton will be hosting alongside Teeling Whiskey’s Master Distiller Alex Chasko. Don’t miss your chance to Meet the Makers, taste their latest and greatest and get answers to the questions, only the Makers have.”

Spider City Brewing (Bend) has a new beer on tap today: “Now on tap, Zombie Goat! A dry, crisp and extremely drinkable West Coast Style Double IPA. Brewed using a simple malt bill that allows the large amounts of Amarillo, Zythos and Citra hops to shine, yielding vibrant and extremely refreshing citrus notes. 8% ABV, 60 IBU.”

Deschutes Brewery: The Bend Public House has just tapped its latest pub-only beer, Makin’ It Haze: “ABV: 6.1% IBU: 70. BREWERS NOTES: A juicy, hazy New England IPA utilizing liberal amounts of wheat and big citrus notes from El Dorado, Sabro and Loral hops. You ask for hazy? Oh boy, we brought you hazy!”

Zoiglhaus Brewing (Portland) has a new bottled seasonal beer for you: “New Bottle Alert!! This is pretty exciting, folks. Weissbier now available in 500mL – it’s the latest release in our seasonal bottle series. You’ll see this on the shelf the next few months before it gives way to Helles.”
