Oregon Beer, Belmont Station

It’s the last day of January, meaning 2019 is already 1/12 (or 8.33%) over! Here’s the Oregon beer news to commemorate the end of the month, with the roundup of the day’s news and events from around the state. As usual I’ll be updating this post throughout the day so check back often for the latest.

Belmont Station (Portland) welcomes Ground Breaker Brewing in for a gluten-free beer tasting tonight from 5 to 8pm: ” Ground Breaker, a 100% gluten free brewery, will be here pouring free samples of their award winning beer. Tasting will include: St. Denny’s – Gluten Free Dubble Style Ale, IPA No. 5 – Gluten Free India Pale Ale, and Inclusion – Gluten Free Dry Hopped Pale Ale. These are delicious beers, and you owe it to yourself to come on down and try them for yourselves.”

The BeerMongers (Portland) is hosting a release party for Grains of Wrath Brewing’s Pandemic Hazy IPA tonight starting at 5pm: “Grains of Wrath has been making delicious beer for a minute and they have graciously allowed us the ability to present this beer to you. Cans for sale to go.”

The Salem Winter Brewfest continues today, with hours from 4 to 10pm and today’s price only $5. You can buy your ticket online here in advance. Be sure to check out the beer list to plan your day.

The 2nd annual Lucky Lab Barleywine Fest has been announced, slated to take place March 8 and 9 at the Lucky Labrador Beer Hall on NW Quimby in Portland. “The impressive festival line-up includes over 70 barleywines. Twenty taps will rotate new and vintage barleywines throughout the weekend. Barleywine is a beer with a significant malt character and an alcohol level from about 8-10% ABV (alcohol by volume.) Colors range from amber to dark brown. The word wine is used to describe the higher alcohol characteristic even though barleywine is strictly a beer. A festival glass and four tokens run only $16 with additional 4 oz. pours for $2.25 each. Lucky Lab’s full menu of hand-tossed pizza, deli sandwiches, salads, and snacks will be available.” Plan your visit now!

Golden Valley Brewery (McMinnville) has a new beer release today: “This unique variant of Black Panther Imperial Stout was aged a full year in bourbon barrels with Brettanomyces. The resulting beer is deep, dark, strong….and just a little bit funky. Available from 3PM on.”

Cascade Brewing (Portland) is pouring vintage beer at the Barrel House: “The Barrel House has a limited amount of Figaro 2012 on tap as a vintage pour this week, which is fun to try alongside the 2015 version! Figaro is a blend of sour blond ales aged in Chardonnay barrels for up to 18 months with dried white figs, lemon peel and orange peel. Elegant and complex, Figaro features flavors of dried figs, citrus fruit, apple skins and Chardonnay wine with a subtle “wild” edge.”

Portland’s Wayfinder Beer and Hood River’s pFriem Family Brewers teamed up on a collaboration brew and that is now on tap at Wayfinder today: “EPIC COLLAB BEER ALERT! pFriem Family Brewers Maybe you’ve heard of them? Yeah, we are huge fans and we made a delicious export-style Helles collaboration beer with them. We will be tapping this unfiltered, rustic and satiating adult beverage at both breweries. Swing down to our tasting room TONIGHT and hit Hood River FRIDAY NIGHT at Pfriem to raise a mug with the brewers!”
