Oregon Beer, The Bier Stein

Happy last Monday of January! We’re rolling into a new month by the end of the week, and then it’s time for #FlagshipFebruary (more on that later). Here’s the Oregon beer news for this Monday the 28th, rounding up the news and events for the week; as usual I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day so check back in from time to time.

The Bier Stein (Eugene) is hosting Burns Night this evening from 6 to 8pm: “Celebrate the life and times of the infamous Scottish poet Robbie Burns by indulging in Scottish traditions. Burns Night will include a Tranquair House Ales tasting and traditional Scottish food specials.”

There are a few more days for the Hawthorne Hophouse IPA Challenge, which runs through the end of the month. If you haven’t had a chance to blind taste and vote on the 12 Oregon IPAs, get down there and do so to help select the IPA that will be on tap all the rest of the year. The dozen IPAs pouring are listed here. And then on Friday, February 1st, the most-voted-for IPA will be revealed, and there will be $4 pint specials.

The Salem Winter Brewfest begins Wednesday, January 30th, and runs through Saturday the 2nd. “The Salem Winter Brewfest, Salem, Oregon’s premiere winter party, beautifully positioned across the street from the steps of Oregon’s State Capitol Building, is a 4-day festival for the 21 and over crowd, featuring live music, a huge variety of cold beers and ciders on tap, cocktails and yummy eats. Take shelter and enjoy the warmth inside our heated tent and bring your friends and family for a fun night in the city. Enjoy listening to unforgettable musical performances by some of the Northwest’s best talent.” Cost varies by the day, and at most cost $25 for Friday and Saturday ($20 if you purchase in advance).

Side A Brewing in La Grande is hosting its inaugural Dead of Winter Festival this Friday, February 1 starting at 3pm. Here a description I found on Untappd: “Side A presents the first inaugural Dead of Winter Festival. This ticketed event will allow admittance into our back patio Biergarten where attendees will have access to over 10 beers from around the world, many that have never been served in NE Oregon. We will also be offering our first Side A bottle – Barrel-aged Pate’s Revenge to the first 100 + ticket holders. Live music, food & fun will also be offered. If you are in to beer, this Dead of Winter Festival is not to be missed. Don’t procrastinate, tickets are selling fast!”

StormBreaker Brewing (Portland) is celebrating its 5th anniversary this Saturday, with all-day specials, raffles, and more.

And Portland’s Look Long Brewing is celebrating its first anniversary this Saturday, with a special anniversary beer along with music and food.

Wild River Brewing: The Medford location is closed tonight for its staff holiday party. Be back tomorrow!

Heater Allen Brewing (McMinnville): The Heater Allen taproom has been closed through the month of January, and this Friday it opens back up with a grand re-opening; from the newsletter: “Our grand re-opening will be February 1st and 2nd, this coming Friday and Saturday! Our hours are the same as before, 3 to 7 on Fridays and noon to 6 on Saturdays. In order to get everyone interested in coming to McMinnville and the Tap Room, we will be pouring $3 steins both days–after this weekend prices return to normal.”

Sunriver Brewing has a new beer out benefiting veterans: “20 Clicks- a limited released, easy drinking IPA. A unique blend of hops provides a pleasant blend of tropical, citrus, and herbal aromatics. Proceeds from this Veterans Hop Blend go directly to the Semper Fi Fund”
