Oregon Beer, Baerlic Brewing

Here is the Oregon beer news for this Tuesday, January 22. As usual I’ll be updating this post throughout the day with the latest news as I find it, so check back often. And if you have news to share please feel free to contact me and I can get that posted too.

Baerlic Brewing (Portland) has a big can release today kicking off at 4pm, for Big Pulp DDH Double Hazy IPA: “We collaborated with our dear pals at Trap Door Brewing on a Double Hazy IPA with a double dry-hop of Strata, Citra, Nelson Sauvin and Vic’s Secret hops—7 lbs per BBL, yikes!—for an insane flavor journey of tropical fruit, dank herbs and bright white grape skin—quench your thirst with endless flavor high-fives!”

Sunriver Brewing is adding capacity; yesterday the brewery installed two new 45-barrel fermenters manufactured by Marks Design and Metalworks of Vancouver, Washington. Always nice to see growth!

Oregon City Brewing has its Charity Pint Night taking place this evening starting at 5pm, benefiting Red Barn Cooperative Preschool: “Pints for half-pints! Join us to support the Red Barn Preschool, where children make discoveries and build their knowledge. Established in 1977, Red Barn School is a non-profit, non-sectarian, state-certified, private cooperative preschool. Governed by a board of parents, the school offers families an opportunity to be involved in their child’s first education experience. Red Barn is a member of the Parent-Child Preschools of Oregon (PCPO), a statewide association of cooperative preschools. Cheers, Pioneers!” $1 from every pint sold will benefit the school, so get down there tonight!

Crux Fermentation Project (Bend): A few days ago Crux released its very first 16-ounce cans, for its Krystal Juice IPA. “We’re pretty excited to get our first 16oz cans out in to the wild. These limited release cans of our Krystal Juice IPA can be bought as a four pack or a single, and are available in a very limited quantity in our tasting room only. Get ’em fast before they’re gone.”

Huge and surprising news out of Portland today, as Widmer Brothers Brewing announces that they are closing its Pub! “We are sad to announce that the Widmer Brothers pub will close its doors to the public today. This was a very hard decision to make, especially as we reflect on the pub’s past and plan an exciting future for the brewery, where our team will continue to brew your favorite Widmer Brothers beers. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts to evolve the pub concept over the years, our pub has experienced profitability challenges. When the pub first opened in 1996, there were only a handful of breweries in the city. Today, there are over 115 breweries in the Portland Metro area. With that increased competition, we have struggled to make the pub financially sustainable.” The Pub is closed already, so don’t rush down there to try to get one last pint.

Deschutes Brewery (Bend): Tuesdays are Community Pints days at the Deschutes locations, where $1 from every pint sold goes to benefit a local non-profit organization. In Bend this month, the Pub and the Tasting Room are benefiting Family Kitchen. I (still) don’t know whom the Portland Pub is benefiting, but I’m sure it’s a great cause.

McMenamins Murray & Allen (Beaverton) is hosting a Friends & Family Night fundraiser tonight starting at 5pm, benefiting St. Cecilla School: “In addition to this emphasis on supporting local communities in which McMenamins has a presence, we focus contributions on three key areas: education, human support services and community development. So on Friends and Family Nights, bring everyone you know out for burgers, beers, wine, cocktails, salads, sandwiches, tater tots, the day’s specials and more – because at the end of the night, 50% of the evening’s total sales are donated to the beneficiary! The more you order, the more is earned for a good cause!”

Gigantic Brewing (Portland) has a new beer for “First Taste Tuesday” today: “‘With a bit of a mind flip, you’re into the time slip. And nothing will ever be the same.’ Join us today for #firsttastetuesday and the tapping of The Time Warp, a ‘dank’ IPA. If you like piney, resinous dry-hopped IPAs, this one is definitely for you. Remember, time is fleeting…”

Modern Times Beer (Portland) has cans of new… sour? spiced? pale?… beer available for you: “HOT DAMN! These cans are pretty swanky, and if your socks are already knocked off, hold on to your other incidental garments, because the beer within is even more of a stunner. Poly Rythmo is the pinnacle of refreshment: crushable and complex, with notes of honeysuckle, ginger, cardamom, & lemon-lime citrus. This 5.1% miracle is currently available on draft and in cans at Belmont. If your day has been so-so thus far, this might just be the perfect remedy.”
