Oregon Beer News for Monday, January 11, 2021

It’s a bit of a slow news day in the Oregon beer news world, at least so far, but here’s what we’ve got going on for this Monday, January 11, 2021. I’ll be updating this post throughout the rest of the day with any updates, so keep an eye on it, but in the meantime let’s get this going!

Requiem and details on the Portland Brewing closure

I reported on Friday on the announcement by Portland Brewing of its imminent closure, which will take place on February 5. Since then, both Brewpublic and The New School have posted article with more details, and New School’s is a nice requiem for the company with thoughts from past brewers and owners. Worth checking out both posts, and pour one out for Portland Brewing’s final days.

Other brewery closures

Speaking of pouring one out, The New School also recently featured a round-up of brewery and taproom closures that occurred in 2020, that I haven’t covered yet. Of particular note to me, located in Central Oregon, are the two local breweries on the list: Ochoco Brewing of Prineville, and Geist Beerworks of Redmond. By and large, COVID-19 is responsible for their demise, with the state limitations that had to come down on bars and restaurants.

Deschutes Brewery’s Teensy beer

The first new beer of the year from Deschutes Brewery is out: Teensy, it’s 3% hazy ale.

Our first release of the new year! Introducing Teensy, a light drinking hazy ale. Vibrant hop aromas leapfrog from this pint-sized package reminiscent of fresh citrus enjoyed outside on the grass. Gentle in strength, but mighty in gusto.
ABV: 3% IBU: 20

GoodLife Brewing announces new limited-edition beer-wine hybrid

Bend’s GoodLife Brewing annouced its first limited release beer for 2021, Pinot Beer.

Pinot Beer, a Pinot Noir Hybrid Ale, a collaborative effort between GoodLife Brewing and Wine by Joe. This hybrid wine ale is a Pinot Noir Barrel-Aged Golden Ale that was blended with Wine by Joe’s unfermented Pinot Noir juice that rested on its skins till we refermented the blend with Brettanomyces and bottled it up for your enjoyment!

Wine By Joe is located in Dundee, incidentally.
