Oregon Beer, Golden Valley Brewing

Here is the Oregon beer news for Thursday, January 10, rounding up the news and events from around the state. As usual, I’ll be updating this post throughout the day, so check back in occasionally for updates. And if you have news to share, please feel free to contact me so I can get that posted as well.

Golden Valley Brewing (McMinnville) joins the ranks of breweries with coolships by christening its own new coolshop today starting at 1pm with its maiden voyage: “A coolship is a brewing vessel which was used traditionally to cool wort. Shaped like a shallow pan, the high surface area helped speed wort cooling while collecting naturally present microbes from the air and environs – the ideal conditions for ‘spontaneous fermentation.’ Come see it for yourself! Golden Valley Brewery is inviting YOU to our brewery in McMinnville to witness the maiden voyage of our new coolship! Pre-release samples of Black Panther Imperial Stout will be available beginning at 1 pm as our brewers set up the coolship and pump it full of steamy hot wort!”

The Bier Stein (Eugene) welcomes Portland’s Von Ebert Brewing today for the brewery’s Eugene launch party: “Von Ebert is known for brewing bright, tasty, unfiltered beer in Portland and we’re excited to be featuring them on draft! Grab a pint with us on January 10th and play “A Minute to Win It” to win fun prizes from this wonderful brewery.”

The Platypus Pub (Bend) is hosting New Belgium Brewing for a Liquid Paradise tasting today from 5 to 7pm: “New Belgium will be down in the pub tasting out their new hazy IPA, Liquid Paradise and a small batch sour. both will be on tap and available for free samples. Stop by & give it a try. Face it, no one wants to drive to Colorado in this weather.”

McMenamins Edgefield (Troutdale) has its limited-edition beer tasting taking place at the Distillery Bar tonight from 5 to 8pm. The brewers will be on hand to answer questions about the beer, though there’s no details posted yet on what will be pouring.

Craft Kitchen & Brewery (Bend) has a very limited bottled beer release available today: “Our 2 year barrel-aged Russian Imperial Stout barrel-aged in CW Irwin barrels. Only 60 bottles available!”

The New School reports that the Cheers to Belgian Beers festival will not be coming back this year: “RIP Portland Cheers To Belgian Beers Festival, the 12 year old festival won’t return in 2019 for its 13th year, or probably ever. ‘Pour one out for CTBB’ said a slide announcing that the Belgian yeast, local brewery festival is ending its run for good, another increasingly common beer festival casualty. ‘We lost a significant amount of money on it last year’ said Dan Engler, current President of the Oregon Brewers Guild at last night’s annual guild meeting. The popular festival has been in the red for many years, Engler said.”

N.W.I.P.A. (Portland) is hosting an Alvarado Street Brewery Showcase today starting at 6pm: “Alvarado Street has been producing juicy, unfiltered IPA’s in Monterey, CA since 2014 and have become particularly efficient in producing high ester beers due to their expressive yeast use. We’re featuring four IPA’s with two kettle sours and will have plenty of single cans available for purchase. Draft will be set at $3 for 6oz and $7 for 16oz pours. Rare opportunity to taste some exciting beers normally not in our market!”

Great Notion Brewing (Portland) is hosting a tap takeover with Horus Aged Ales tonight starting at 5pm: “Come and welcome our good friend Kyle from Horus Aged Ales! He’ll be up here for a couple of days for a tap takeover (Thursday night), a collabo brewday and also the BA release of our prior collabo, Bourbon Barrel Frenched Toast (Sat the 12th)!”
