My latest article for the Bulletin newspaper landed last Thursday: Vienna lager, by way of Mexico. A style overview, inspired by brewing one for our local homebrew club competition, it’s a style the BJCP guidelines indicate might move into the “Historical Beer” section as there aren’t many modern versions these days (pFriem’s Vienna Lager, which I cite, notwithstanding).

Of course, the loosely-defined “Mexican lager” is largely Vienna-lager-originated, hence my ambling onto that path in the article. Not all Mexican-styled lagers are Viennese inspired, but many craft-brewed versions are.
